Two hospitals in northern Lincolnshire are asking people to stay away this weekend unless it's an emergency.

Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Scunthorpe General Hospital are expecting their A&E department to be "stretched" over the weekend.

They say extra visitors to the east coast mean more people will be visiting their A&E and minor injuries departments.

Paul Kirton-Watson, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust associate chief nurse (medicine), says the trust has redeployed staff "to maintain safe and effective care" but resources are still expected to be stretched.

"We would urge people to choose wisely, either with self-care or by speaking to their pharmacist about minor illnesses and injuries, rather than attending one of our hospitals," Mr Kirton-Watson adds.

Organisers say tickets are going well with some of the enclosures sold out, although there's still availability on both days of the event which takes place on 9 and 10 September.

Air Show director Paul Sall says he doesn't want people to be disappointed:

You can by tickets for Waddington international on the day but you won't be able to for this event. Advance tickets only for Scampton."

Eardley appeared for Wales 16 times between 2007 and 2011, and played for the Imps on Saturday in their 2-1 win over Walsall in Lee Beevers' testimonial and in a behind-closed-doors game this week.

    Quote Message

"I am delighted to be able to bring in someone of Neal's experience. In the two games he has played, he has shown what a well organised footballer he is. Technically and tactically you can see that he has played in the Premier League and will be a really good role model for our younger players."

  12. Community 'living in fear' because of gang crime in Grimsbypublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    Phillip Norton
    BBC News

People who live in part of Grimsby say they are living in fear because of gangs of youths who are terrorising the area.

In the past few days the East Marsh area has seen a suspected arson attack, a rooftop siege and a car abandoned after hitting a house.

A fire outside a house in Grimsby

I've been talking to people who live in the area on the phone. They say they are too scared of reprisals to be seen talking to the BBC.

Humberside Police say the recent incidents are not linked.

Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter says tackling anti-social behaviour is a key issue for him and he wants to see an increased visible police presence in the area.

He plans to do that by recruiting 200 new police officers a year.

  14. Homes plan at Louth approved - but opponents disappointedpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Controversial plans for hundreds of new homes on the edge of Louth have been approved.

East Lindsey District Council planners have backed the application for just under 300 houses on a site off Legbourne Road.

Louth Town council and some residents had objected saying the town can't cope with large developments.

    Quote Message

I'm really disappointed. I'm disappointed for the residents of the area who were very much against this plan. I think a lot of the points brought up were very relevant about Louth finding it very difficult to support these large applications."

Councillor Sue Crew, Louth Town Council

A meat processing company which supplies Tesco is in talks to buy Grimsby firm Icelandic Seachill.

    Icelandic Seachill sign

Seachill is a leading supplier of chilled fish to the UK retail market and employs about 750 people at its two sites in Grimsby.

Hilton Food Group plc says it's in the very early stages of talks about a potential acquisition and there are no guarantees it will go ahead.

An official statement will be released if the firm does take over the business, it adds.
