    Campaigners are celebrating this afternoon as Grimsby's ice rink is saved from closure.

    North East Lincolnshire Council had wanted to shut the town's rink because it was too expensive for the authority to run.

    But a group campaigned to keep it open and this afternoon they've been given the go-ahead to run it themselves.

    A controversial money-saving scheme which has seen some of Lincolnshire's street lights switched off is to be reviewed.

    Members of a scrutiny committee on Lincolnshire County Council say they want to examine the effect the decision has had on communities across the county.

    The measures have proved unpopular in many areas - with complaints that the dark nights make it easier for criminals to operate and more unsafe for pedestrians.

    It's expected the review will take six months before any recommendations are made.

    An elderly woman suffered serious injuries when the bus she was travelling in was forced to pull up sharply to avoid a crash in Grimsby.

    Police say they need to speak to the driver of a small white car which pulled in front of the single-decker at the junction of Freeman Street and Wellington Street in Grimsby at about 09:30 yesterday.

    A police spokesman said: "We would like to speak to the driver of the car, they may not be aware of the incident but we need to speak to them."

    TVs, Playstations and sound systems are among the items seized by North Lincolnshire Council because of noisy neighbours.

    In the last year, the council says it's had over 400 complaints of noise from people singing, playing loud music and parties.

    Some of those have led to items like DVDs, Freeview boxes and radios being confiscated, the authority has revealed.

    North Lincolnshire Council is now donating confiscated equipment to the Magic Moments charity in Scunthorpe.

    Work starts today on a major road to the Lincolnshire coast.

    New surfacing will be laid along four sections of the A158 over the next two weeks.

    Lincolnshire County Council says it's "unfortunate" the work has to take place during the school summer holidays when the route is at its busiest.

    The authority says it had planned to complete the project earlier in the spring, but it was impossible due to wet weather.

    Youths who pulled up safety flooring at a play park in Boston have caused £5,000 worth of damage, police say.

    It happened at about 17:00 on 17 July at the park on Wellington Road, with CCTV images showing three boys pulling up the safety matting.

    Lincolnshire Police are asking for anyone who recognises the boys in the pictures to get in touch.

    An ice rink in Grimsby which is threatened with closure could be taken over by the people who use it.

    North East Lincolnshire Council had wanted to close the town's rink because it was too expensive for them to run.

    But the Grimsby Ice Rink Community has campaigned to keep it open and today it's expected to take over the running of the venue.

    The council is set to make a final decision later on whether the group will be allowed to officially take the facility off the authority's hands.

    Lincoln's only walk-in health centre should remain open until convincing alternatives can be found.

    That's according to councillors from the city who met health bosses at a public meeting last night.

    The event, held at the Alive Church in Newland, Lincoln, heard from locals and health campaigners, many angry at plans to close the centre in Monks Road.

    The NHS says it needs to close the centre because it is duplicating services which are already available elsewhere.

    A dog was thrown out of a moving pick-up truck by thieves yesterday as they tried to get away from the scene of their crime.

    Police say the dog is OK after its ordeal which began when the grey Ford Ranger it was sitting in was stolen from Mareham le Fen, near Horncastle, at about 12.20.

    The dog was found nearby and the truck was later found abandoned near Coningsby.

    Anybody who has any information about the theft should call police on 101.

    We were telling you yesterday about the crackdown on street drinking in Skegness - and according to police it's already having results.

    I was out with PCSOs Ben and Kirsty (below) on the streets yesterday morning - and senior officers say there have been two arrests already.

    Police were using powers under a so-called dispersal order - which allows them to move on drunks and other troublemakers.

    Four men have been charged with violent disorder after an incident in the centre of Grantham.

    Police say they were alerted by the council's CCTV system yesterday.

    Officers say the men were believed to be armed with "edged weapons".

    The men, who are all from Nottingham, will appear in court tomorrow.
