  12. Hip operation woman forced to stay in dementia unitpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

A Lincolnshire couple has received almost £2,000 in compensation - after the county council failed to find them suitable home care.

The married couple were separated for 10 months after the woman had a hip operation and was forced to stay in a dementia unit - even though she didn't have the condition.

The local government watchdog said she should have returned home with the help of a care package.

The woman was placed in a residential home some 15 miles away because the council's contracted providers didn't have capacity to care for her.

This meant her husband drove a 30-mile round trip everyday to visit.

The council has apologised for causing them distress.
