    Lara King
    North East Lincolnshire reporter

Rifle through your pockets and break open your piggy banks. You've only got a couple of days left to spend your old £1 coins! From Monday the old round pound coin will no longer be legal tender.

An old and a new £1 coin

But one Grimsby business owner's been telling me that that the new pound coin is going to cost him over £1,000.

Amir Kahn, who owns a launderette in Grimsby, says he's having to replace all the coin slots on his washers and driers and has not been offered any help with the cost of updating the mechanisms.

Mr Kahn says he considered closing and says small businesses will suffer.

    Quote Message

We've been forced into a corner, we have no choice. The choice is we either spend a couple of thousand on mechanisms or we don't and we lose trade, we lose business and lose the business that we have put together."

    A non-emergency ambulance

Since Monday, new rules for Thames Ambulance Service volunteers were introduced, meaning drivers will no longer be paid for fuel used on the way to their first job, or returning from their last job.

  14. High rate of Lincolnshire prescriptions for 'new valium'published at 17:38 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

A drug which has been linked to more than 100 deaths is being prescribed more in Lincolnshire than in most other parts of the country.

    Factfile about pregabalin

Pregabalin is prescribed for nerve pain, epilepsy and anxiety, but the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, external says it's been linked to 111 deaths in the last year.

Figures obtained by the BBC from the website Open Prescribing, external suggest that in July more pregabalin was prescribed per 1,000 people in the Lincolnshire East Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) area than anywhere else.

The CCG says the usage is due to patient demographics in the area and the high prevalence of long-term conditions, requiring chronic pain management.

    BBC News Travel

A crash involving at least four vehicles has closed the southbound lane of the A17, near Bicker Bar.

  17. Woodhall Spa gas find: What is mustard gas?published at 16:54 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

Following last week's discovery of mustard gas (pictured) in woods near Woodhall Spa, local residents are later expected to find out more about the situation at a meeting being held by the police, military and East Lindsey District Council.

    Mustard gas

But what exactly is mustard gas?

It was first developed in the early 19th century, but rose to infamy during World War One where it was first effectively weaponised and deployed by Germany at Ypres, Belgium, in 1917.

The Allies would follow suit and develop their own version.

Exposure to mustard gas results in blistering to the skin and lungs and while it can prove fatal it served more as an incapacitator during the war.

About 185,000 British and Empire service personnel were listed as gas casualties by the time the conflict came to end.

The use of mustard gas in warfare, along with other poisonous gases and biological weapons, was banned in 1925. However, its production and stockpiling was not

That perhaps offers some explanation as to why the canisters have been found near Woodhall Spa - an air station and army base were established there as late as the 1940s.

Despite the ban, it has been used in conflicts since. Under Saddam Hussein, Iraq used it against Kurds in the north of the country - and there is evidence so-called Islamic State has used it as well.
