  3. Fewer than half of eligible children getting free flu jab - NHSpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    David Sykes
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

New NHS figures have revealed that fewer than half of the eligible children in Lincolnshire - and fewer than half of all eligible people under 65 - are getting the free seasonal flu vaccine they're entitled to, external.

I've been speaking to parents at one Lincolnshire school whose children are entitled to a free flu vaccination.

While some parents are eager for their children to be protected against the illness, others are either unsure - or they're adamant they don't want their children to be vaccinated.

The most common concern is that parents don't want to risk the vaccination making their child poorly.

But Jennifer Roberts, a Health Protection Nurse in Lincolnshire, says this is a myth:

The vaccine can't give you the flu, but it can mimic some symptoms. That's purely the body's response to the vaccine."

    David Sykes

Most people in Lincolnshire who are eligible for a free flu vaccination and are under 65 are not taking up the offer, the NHS has warned.
