Senior officers say it will mean samples will no longer have to be transported to Oxfordshire and Lancashire as they are at present.

In some cases the new arrangement means they will be able to get results back on the same day - allowing them to identify and prosecute suspects for crimes including murder and burglary much more quickly.

  13. Unions: Replace Red Arrows aircraft to save BAE jobspublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 10 October 2017

    Martin Slack
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

News of massive job losses at BAE Systems is making the headlines today and now the Lincolnshire-based Red Arrows are being dragged into the story.

BAE says it has to make almost 2,000 people redundant as it faces a gap in orders for its Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft - some of which are based here at RAF Coningsby.

    Red Arrows

But the Unite union has said the jobs could be saved if the Government placed it's own order for replacement aircraft for the Red Arrows current Hawk jets - which are also produced by BAE.

John Cameron is from the Unite union at BAE's plant at Warton in Lancashire where many jobs will go he said the Government could help by buying new Hawk jets.

    Quote Message

Look at the Red Arrows, and the Hawk in particular. You either have a Red Arrows or you don't have a Red Arrows. If you're going to support the Red Arrows then having a British product, flying a British product, at a sensible price would be the Hawk aircraft."
