A pumpkin cannon - yes, a pumpkin cannon - near Boston has become a national attraction.

The "Pumpkin Master Blaster" in Benington, which serves no purpose other than firing the orange fruit hundreds of metres in the air, has attracted visitors from as far afield as Liverpool and Swansea.

It's raising money for the NSPCC in Lincolnshire.

Here it is in action - it is best viewed in full screen :

About £30m has been spent to bring superfast broadband to the county.

Officials say that although fibre broadband won't be provided to all properties, the county council is looking at alternative ways to provide high speed internet to the 10,500 homes not included in this roll-out.

Over the past four years 158,000 homes have been connected and 14,000 more will gain the connection over the next two years.

Wing Commander Andy Green, a former RAF pilot who's been based in Lincolnshire, says it's more than just showing off.

    Quote Message

It's a unique opportunity to showcase Great British engineering and technology, and to reach out to our real target audience, the 10-year-olds out there who will be our scientists and engineers of tomorrow, and actually inspire them with the magic of the science and technology in the world's most extraordinary straight line racing car.

  11. Grantham A&E "not quite" ready to reopen overnightpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Earlier we heard Grantham's MP say health bosses have recruited enough doctors to reopen Grantham's A&E overnight.

Well a medical director at the trust which runs the hospital says "we're not quite there yet".

    doctorImage source, Getty Images

Although enough extra doctors have been recruited in order to safely staff the ward, the trust is concerned that not all staff are obliged to stay in the county.

Some of the doctors they've recruited are locum (temporary) doctors who aren't contracted to stay permanently.

But Dr Neill Hepburn says that a decision will be made on 7 November, and could mean the A&E department opens before Christmas.

    Quote Message

We're not quite there yet to determine whether we can do that safely, but it's certainly looking a lot much more optimistic than it was a few months ago.

Dr Neill Hepburn, Medical Director at ULHT

If approved, the Boston Flood Barrier will be built by December 2019.

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

The bridge on Barrowby Rd (pictured) has been hit by tall vehicles 90 times since April 2009.

The crashes cause delays on roads and rails because engineers need to check the bridge is safe before trains can pass over it.

The bridge is the fourth most commonly hit by vehicles in the country.

Network Rail says 43% of lorry drivers they surveyed didn't know the size of the vehicles they drive.

Ross Easton, from Network Rail, says Grantham is a particular hot spot and it's causing huge traffic delays:

    Harry Parkhill
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

It's such a faff carving ghoulish faces in your pumpkin isn't it?

All that goo inside, the horrible stink, and then there's the ordeal of having to come up with a design.

Well, Lincolnshire Field Products, from Spalding, has come to the rescue with these beauties:

The pumpkin farm says they've grown a million pumpkins this year.

But only 250 of them are Franken-pumpkins.

Ben Harris from the farm says it's very time consuming, but surprisingly simple.

    Quote Message

We've got a mould and then select a plant with a uniform pumpkin on it with very little damage. We then place it inside the mould and leave it to grow. If we've got it right that pumpkin will grow inside the mould and form the face we see now.

But it seems they may have been rather keen in their approach.

Officers confronted people suspected of being hare coursers who turned out to be walking their dog in the sunshine.

Despite all the drones, off-road vehicles and hi-tech gadgets the force has deployed, it still relies on members of the public.

Lincolnshire Police say they were grateful for the call they received and urge the public to "remain vigilant" and to contact them if they see anything suspicious.
