It's been a controversial policy, regularly criticised by members of the public, but there won't be a u-turn on the decision to turn some of the county's streetlights off.

    streetlight switchoff

The Leader of Lincolnshire County Council, Martin Hill, says that there will be "no u-turn" on the decision to switch the lights off.

Last year thousands of the county's streetlights were turned off after midnight to save over £1.7m.

The council is currently reviewing the policy for its impact and councillor Hill says there may be some changes to the policy.

Where there's people going to work in the early hours of the morning, there could be places where there is a factory or something, we could look at that. But I mean to stress that we won't be doing an overall turning back on of all the lights"
