The editor of Lincoln City's fan blog says he understands the boycott, even if he won't be taking part himself:

    Quote Message

Our entire league structure is becoming the focus of just 20 teams, so it's taking away the individuality that we have among smaller teams like Lincoln City, Scunthorpe and, dare I say it, Grimsby Town."

  15. Scunthorpe Market plans 'will increase footfall'published at 16:08 British Summer Time 23 October 2017

A planned refurbishment and redevelopment of Scunthorpe Market will increase the number of customers, according to North Lincolnshire Council.

    Campaign posters

Some traders say they fear plans for a facelift for the market could put them out of business after stalls are moved outside while the work is going on.

But Rob Waltham, from North Lincolnshire Council, says the refurbishment is aimed at benefiting traders and local residents:

    Quote Message

The market is not the building that exists currently. For me the market is about improving Scunthorpe town centre and that's an important dynamic we've all got to embrace. We also need to make sure that we've got a market in which we've got really excessive footfall. We're putting the town council offices...and other business in there. All those are a mix that will increase the footfall."

    Rob Waltham, North Lincolnshire Council

    David Burns
    BBC Radio Humberside

I am at Scunthorpe Market today, talking to people about a petition signed by thousands of local residents asking the council not to go ahead with plans to move all the traders here before giving the place a facelift.

    David Burns and Julia Murray

Julia Murray (pictured) took time out from her stall to tell me she believes the council's plans are not practical and there are no assurances they'll be able to return to the site:

    Quote Message

We do feel that if the market goes from this site, it won't come back to this site."

    Julia Murray, Market trader

North Lincolnshire Council says the facelift is part of a £60m investment in the town centre.
