The risk of avian flu in wild birds has been raised to medium, although the risk for poultry remains low.

Last December and January, more than 30,000 birds at poultry farms in Lincolnshire were culled after three farms were infected.

Charles Row, a free range egg farmer near Horncastle, says that apart from the welfare of the birds being severely compromised the financial implications are massive:

Once you have a confirmed outbreak on your farm, the cleaning and disinfection that must go on, by order of the government, is significant.

    Harry Parkhill

A low swoop by a helicopter has made a Lincolnshire woman realise how important high-vis jackets are while out horseriding in the countryside.

A helicopter almost flew right over Sandra Murphy and her friend at low altitude, risking spooking the horses:

A decade ago, Sandra started a campaign to encourage riders to wear reflective jackets after two women died because of low flying helicopters.

She says this experience has reminded her how risky going out horseriding without high-vis clothing can be.
