  12. Sleaford woman launches petition to tighten firework usepublished at 15:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2017

    Jake Zuckerman
    Journalist, BBC Look North

A woman from Lincolnshire says she'll continue her campaign asking for a change in the law on fireworks.

    Julie Doorne

Julie Doorne, from Sleaford, has set up a petition for tougher restrictions on the use of fireworks saying they cause distress and suffering to animals.

As well as animals, Julie says lots of people can be affected by the unexpected loud explosions such as those with autism, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.

After three weeks, her petition has reached over 20,000 signatures.

Two years ago, she launched another petition and when it reached 100,000 signatures it was debated in Parliament, with the government rejecting calls to change the law.

She's calling on the government to start collecting statistics from all emergency services to understand the size of the problem and to only have displays on certain days so people can prepare:

    Quote Message

Traditional fireworks are fantastic - Fireworks Night, New Year's Eve, Diwali, Chinese New Year - everyone can prepare for those if they've got dogs that are frightened and if they've got elderly relatives that may be scared... But if you've don't know when they're going to happen how are you supposed to prepare for them?"

    IVF

Three of the four CCGs only offer one round of IVF, a BBC investigation has found.

In Hull, it's two and you can apply for a third, but only if you go through a funding review.

Campaigners argue that infertility is a disease and everyone should have access to three cycles of IVF on the NHS, regardless of where they live.

    Quote Message

There needs to be consistency. There's so much difference between the postcodes in the last two or three years. I've had friends from the same area who didn't get funding."
