    Martin Slack
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

A First World War hero from Lincolnshire will be honoured a century on from the date he was given the Victoria Cross for bravery.

Sgt Harold Jackson received his VC from King George V at Buckingham Palace after single-handed action in which he flushed out the enemy and took a machine gun out of action.

Sgt Jackson was killed in action on the Somme in August 1918, and was the only person in the Boston borough to be awarded the VC.

Jackson Drive in Kirton, near Boston, is named after him and the centenary memorial service will take place at Kirton War Memorial next March.

  2. Ambulance firm facing watchdog over performancepublished at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire's non-emergency ambulance service has repeatedly failed to meet key targets since a new provider took over in July, a report has highlighted.

Figures are going before the county's health watchdog later on the performance of Thames Ambulance Service, which provides transport for patients.

The county council's health scrutiny committee will question health managers and bosses from the private firm after hearing an increasing number of complaints.

A report to be considered by councillors highlights five key concerns:

    • Call handling
    • Journey planning
    • Not collecting patient at booked time
    • Delays in discharge from hospital
    • Increased number of complaints to clinical commissioning group (CCG)

  3. Questions asked over council's £2m hotel billpublished at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    Martin Slack
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

A council in Lincolnshire is under fire for spending more than £2m on a hotel - in Yorkshire.

Gainsborough-based West Lindsey District Council bought the hotel on the outskirts of Keighley in West Yorkshire in October.

    Travelodge

The council says the rental income will prevent job and service cuts.

But the opposition on the authority says the investment should have been made within West Lindsey.

  10. Watchdog report highlights force attitudes to officerspublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire Police treat the public fairly but the same can't always be said of the force's attitude to its own officers, according to a new report from a watchdog.

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary has just published a report into how the force treats its staff and it says there is room for improvement.

The report found that staff struggled to take leave and often felt they were being stretched to the limit while being unable to challenge senior managers' decisions.

Deputy Chief Constable Craig Naylor said senior officers, who are new in post, had begun to address the issues and this was recognised in the report.

Now, this has made the news before, but like a lot of Christmas stories it improves with each retelling.

Every year since 1960 staff at Stamford Hospital have had a Christmas card from an anonymous patient expressing their thanks to staff.

Officers put out an appeal to help find Royston Draper, aged 60, after he went missing on a trip to the pub in Chapel St Leonards on Sunday night.

    Martin Slack
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

We've just heard from Lincolnshire Police about Lea Road in Gainsborough where a skip lorry is trapped under a railway bridge.

Officers say recovery work on the lorry won't start until around 16.00 on the advice of Network Rail engineers to ensure a gap in trains travelling overhead.

    Lorry under bridge

It will then take a further hour to move the truck so it's thought the road won't be open until about 17.00.

The lorry, which you can see in the picture above, hit the bridge at around 09.30 this morning.

  20. Planners approve outlet village schemepublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Katy Austin
    BBC Look North, Business Correspondent

I’m in Grantham this afternoon where planners have just approved a huge new outlet village for a site next to the A1.

The firm Buckminster is behind the plan and it says the scheme will create 1,500 jobs, put Grantham “on the map” and draw people in to the town centre.

These are the artist’s impressions produced in support of the application - but there are objections.

They mainly come from Downtown, the company which runs a large shop at the next junction north on the A1.

It has plans for a similar development.
