  1. Developers critical of new ‘tax on house building’published at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Sharon Edwards
    Political Reporter, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Some house builders in Lincolnshire have spoken out against a new levy that's coming in to force in the new year.

Developers in Gainsborough, Lincoln and Sleaford will have to pay more towards local facilities as part of a scheme being introduced by three councils which have drawn up the Central Lincolnshire Development Plan.

The so-called Community Infrastructure Levy - or CIL - will go towards raising £0.5bn over the next 25 years.

But developers say they already pay towards local facilities and more charging will put them off developing certain sites, particularly those on a smaller scale.

It is basically a tax on land - if you're a developer going in you'll calculate your costs which are pretty fixed so this will affect the price of land

  7. Boston death 'not murder'published at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Martin Slack
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

Police have confirmed they are not treating the death of a man in Boston as murder – despite him being found in the street with serious injuries.

Earlier today officers renewed their appeal about an incident on Sunday 3 December in Skirbeck Road, Boston, where the man was found.

Police revealed he had died of his injuries yesterday, but have since said they have not launched a murder inquiry.

They say there was an earlier incident outside a pub in Spilsby Road, where it’s thought the man had been trying car door handles.

Earlier this month the retailer confirmed it will close at least 26 stores in the UK next spring putting around 800 jobs at risk

North Lincolnshire Council leader Rob Waltham says the situation is driven by the fact the company has a US parent making decisions and it highlights the need to encourage local businesses.

The warning comes on the same day the trust says it can't reopen Grantham's A&E at night because of ongoing staffing issues.

The decision has prompted a furious response from the town's MP and from campaigners who've been fighting to reverse the closure, which has been in place since August 2016.

  10. MP voices dismay at A&E closure decisionpublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Sharon Edwards
    Political Reporter, BBC Radio Lincolnshire

The Grantham and Stamford MP Nick Boles says he's "dismayed, shocked and stunned" after NHS chiefs said they would not reopen an A&E unit at night.

Grantham A&E closed overnight in August 2016 because the United Lincolnshire Hospital NHS Trust said it did not have enough doctors to run it safely.

    Nick Boles

Last month managers said they had recruited enough doctors, but now say they won't be reopening on the advice on a national body called NHS Improvement.

Mr Boles, a former Conservative minister, says too many outside bodies have become involved - and now the unit faces being downgraded to an urgent care centre instead of an A&E unit.

    Quote Message

I will be using every available opportunity in parliament to raise this with the Secretary of State for Health and the Prime Minister if we can get in - because it's completely and totally unacceptable"
