    A community group is campaigning against plans for their village to borrow hundreds of thousands of pounds to build a "pointless" community centre.

    Skellingthorpe Parish Council is borrowing nearly £1m to build the new centre, library and cafe because they say they'll be needed when more houses are built in the area.

    Protesters say that local taxpayers will be lumbered with the debt on their tax bill.

    The Parish Council says "it is definitely not a vanity project" and that the plans will not be a "massive burden to taxpayers in Skellingthorpe".

    Rail passengers travelling across Lincolnshire and the north of England can expect delays because of a rail strike.

    Members of the RMT union working on Northern Rail are walking out because of an ongoing row over driver only trains.

    A revised timetable and replacement buses are in operation.

    Preparation work on the biggest infrastructure project Boston has ever had begins today.

    The £100m flood barrier for the town was approved by the government just before Christmas.

    The project is hoped to protect 14,000 homes from flooding.

    In 2013 hundreds of homes were flooded after a tidal surge.

  5. Man on the run from open prisonpublished at 08:16 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    A convicted burglar has absconded from North Sea Camp prison near Boston.

    Peter McGlade (pictured) jumped over a wall just after 18:00 yesterday.

    Police officers have used a drone, dog support unit and air support to search for him.

    McGlade is described as being 5ft 5in tall, with brown hair and a scar on his right hand.
