However, council leader Martin Hill today confirmed the appeal had been withdrawn by the firm.

    Quote Message

This is good news for local residents and the county council as we remained opposed to the proposed development due to its close proximity to many residential properties.

He was visiting Lincoln County Hospital after criticising the government for presiding over an "all-year-round funding crisis" in the NHS.

    Quote Message

We've had a really busy winter so far... we've seen high numbers of patients, we've seen very sick patients but we're coping.

Rival campaigns have battled for years to be first to put a statue of a woman in front of the Houses of Parliament.

The Grantham-born former Prime Minister was beaten in the competition by advocates of suffragist and trade union leader Millicent Fawcett.

She is set to join the 10 men in the square, including Sir Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela, later this year.

Westminster Council has recommended plans for the Thatcher statue (above) to be refused but the decision will be made on Tuesday.

  14. Jeremy Corbyn dismisses National Health Insurance ideapublished at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2018

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has dismissed a Lincolnshire MP's idea to have a National Health Insurance scheme.

    jeremy corbyn

Mr Corbyn's been visiting Lincoln County Hospital today to draw attention to problems faced by the NHS.

Grantham MP Nick Boles, who's been treated for cancer twice, says people would be happy to pay higher taxes as long as they knew it would be spent on the NHS.

He suggested a completely separate funding stream called a National Health Insurance so people knew their money was being spent on healthcare.

But Mr Corbyn said the idea was not supported by Labour:

    Quote Message

What we would consider - and we will do - is raise corporate levels of of taxation in order to fund the NHS properly. Our plan is for £37bn to go into the NHS and £8bn into social care.

  16. The practical problems of policing laid bare for PCCpublished at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2018

It can take "several hours" to arrest someone for even a minor offence, according to Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner.

PCC Marc Jones discovered the fact after spending an "eye opening" night shift with officers.

He admitted that parts of the process were inefficient.

police on patrol in louthImage source, Marc Jones

Mr Jones spent Saturday night observing police in Louth.

The PCC says it showed him some of the frustrations police face in the county.

The process to arrest someone for something as seemingly simple as driving under the influence of drugs, was more complicated than he expected.

    Quote Message

The gentleman would need to be arrested, put in handcuffs. A second officer had to arrive, because to transport someone in that position you need two police officers. And then the nearest custody suite is in Skegness so that's where we went.

Marc Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire

He said the whole process to arrest one person took "several hours" of valuable police time.

When asked whether it was an inefficient process, he said it "absolutely" was.
