  2. Most calls to Lincolnshire Fire Service aren't firespublished at 08:58 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2018

    More than half the calls to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service are for medical emergencies and not fires, according to statistics seen by BBC Lincolnshire.

    The service receives nearly 7,000 calls per year, but many - like the car accident above - are first dealt with by First Responder volunteers.

    Firefighters at 26 stations are also trained to deal with medical emergencies like heart attacks.

    Sean Taylor, Divisional Commander at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, says crews can be "on scene a lot quicker" than paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service.

    A unique cinema in a Lincolnshire village is expanding because staff there say they can't meet demand.

    Woodhall Spa's Kinema in the Woods already has two screens, but the management say they are often sold out.

    A planning application has been submitted to East Lindsey District Council, with a proposed new auditorium adding a further 90 seats.

    The cinema opened in 1922 after it was converted from a sports pavilion and has become a major attraction in the intervening years.

    There have been some concerns raised by neighbours over parking.

    Contractors in Lincolnshire are ready to fill the gap left by collapsed construction firm Carillion and to step in to complete Lincoln's Eastern Bypass, according to one of the businesses working on the scheme.

    Lincolnshire County Council has reassured the public that work on the bypass will still go ahead, despite the announcement that Carillion has gone into liquidation.

    Bruce Spencer-Knott is the managing director of Lincoln-based Minster Surfacing, one of the current bypass contractors.

    He says he doesn't think they will lose money - and says there are many local businesses who could now take over work on the bypass.

    Police in Boston have appealed for help to find a man who walked out of the town's court before magistrates had a chance to sentence him.

    Jordan Jay Gilbert, 24, of Willoughby Road, Boston, was in court this afternoon for a driving offence, but officers say he walked out of the foyer before he could be stopped.

    He was wearing a large dark coloured raincoat and is about 5ft 6ins tall.

    If you have seen him, you're advised to contact 999 rather than approach him.

    More than 160 Syrian refugees have been given sanctuary in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire over the past two-and-a-half years, it's emerged.

    East Yorkshire has taken the highest number, with 72 people coming to live in the area.

    Pupils at Kirton Primary School near Boston have invented the "Kirt".

    Teachers say it's to help children learn the value of money and savings.

    Once saved, the "Kirts" can then be spent in the school shop.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery on Lincoln High Street yesterday morning.

    Officers say a woman in her 40s was approached outside St Botolph's Church at about 07:40 yesterday morning.

    The victim was not injured and nothing was taken and officers have since identified and arrested a man in his 20s.

    But they would still like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time. Witnesses should call 101.

  13. Patient transport service is 'getting better'published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2018

    As MPs prepare to debate issues with the non-emergency patient transport service in Hull and Lincolnshire, the company behind the service says it is improving.

    There have been complaints that Thames Ambulance Service has failed to pick some patients up on time, meaning they have missed appointments, while others have been left stranded in hospital.

    Brigg and Goole Conservative MP Andrew Percy is due to hold a debate on the issue in the Commons later.

    Landlords in Lincolnshire are being warned by police to check up on tenants after two houses were used to grow drugs.

    Detectives say they're investigating two cases in Grantham where properties were used for cannabis production.

    The cases involved houses in Dysart Road and South Parade where tenants had paid their rent in full and immediately changed the locks.

    A man from Scunthorpe has been charged after a lorry carrying 20 tonnes of paper overturned, forcing a partial closure of the M3.

    The vehicle also shed about 32 gallons (150 litres) of diesel on the southbound road near junction 12 at Eastleigh on Sunday night. A crash barrier was also damaged.

    The man, 50, is in custody accused of driving without due care and attention and failing to provide a specimen and is due before Southampton magistrates.

    The road reopened on Monday morning.

    An attack in Grimsby which left a man dead is an "isolated incident", according to Humberside Police.

    The 47-year-old victim died in hospital today following an assault outside a bank on Old Market Place yesterday afternoon.

    Det Insp Stewart Miller says: "At the current time we believe this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider community.

    "Our initial investigations have led us to believe this attack was not targeted at any specific section of the community and we will be increasing patrols in the area."

    Medics have issued another warning about Lincoln County Hospital's A&E department this lunchtime.

  20. Murder investigation launched after attack in Grimsbypublished at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2018

    A murder investigation has been launched in Grimsby following a fatal attack on a 47-year-old man.

    Humberside Police say the man was found injured on the pavement outside a bank on Old Market Place yesterday afternoon.

    He was taken to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital for treatment, where he died this morning.

    Police say they are hunting for a man aged 20-45 with dark-rimmed glasses, wearing a beige or grey jacket with a peaked hood.
