    Figures out today reveal what percentage of patients were seen within the four hour waiting time target at accident and emergency units, across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, over January.

    More than three quarters of patients (76%) across hospitals in Hull and East Yorkshire were seen within the four hour target in January. That figure is down (81.3%) from December.

    In northern Lincolnshire nearly 85 per cent of patients were seen within four hours and that figure was only slightly down from December (86.7%).

    Nationally the four-hour A&E target was missed for the 30th month in a row with 85.3% of patients seen in four hours, marginally better than the 85.1% in December.

    Trade unions representing steel workers in Scunthorpe say they want reassurances from the government over the future of the industry.

    The unions have organised an event in Redcar to promote the steel industry.

    They want assurances from the government that any post-Brexit laws will protect the UK's steel industry from cheap imports.

    They also want big infrastructure projects such as the HS2 rail project to use British Steel.

  6. Boston makes claim to flattest marathon coursepublished at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2018

    Boston Marathon has seen off a challenge from organisers of the Manchester Marathon to lay claim to running the flattest marathon course.

    It's after the Manchester Marathon organisers said their course only reaches a maximum elevation of 90ft but organisers of the Boston event fought back saying theirs only reaches 11.2ft.

    The event is taking place on Sunday, 15 April and is popular with runners who, with an absence of hills, record their personal best times.

    The deadline for runners to register is 27 March.

    Numerous archaeological remains have been found in North Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

    The artefacts have been unearthed as part of the onshore construction phase of the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

    Work has included excavation of two Iron Age settlement sites in North Killingholme, prehistoric farming activity, a Romano-British settlement in Stallingborough and medieval moated sites in Harborough and South Killingholme.

The individual was not buried at the medieval hospital or cemetery which we know existed three miles to the north west. The body was actually found in the upper level of a field boundary, on the outside of a moated enclosure."

    Firecrews were called before 0700 GMT this morning to the seventh floor of the building.

    Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue say it was caused by someone smoking in bed.

    The hospitals trust is investigating.

    A national debt advice service based in Grantham says it has seen referrals jump by 20% since the start of the year.

    Now 1,300 people a week are contacting PayPlan.

    BBC News has found the value of outstanding personal loans in Great Britain has grown four-times faster than wages.

    Data published by UK Finance shows households had outstanding loans worth £37bn in 2016-17.

    Just over two thirds of A&E patients in Lincolnshire - a total of 67% - were treated within four hours, according to government figures released today.

    That's a dip from April last year when 85% of patients were seen within the four-hour target.

    The England average is 85%.

    The number of patients attending A&E in Lincolnshire has remained steady and averaged at just under 13,000 a week between October and January, figures show.

    The government's being accused of "mindless industrial vandalism" over claims it could have taken back control of a failing rail franchise.

    The RMT union says it further compounds what it calls the "shambles" over the future of the East Coast Mainline, which has its HQ in York.

    The government announced on Monday that Stagecoach and Virgin would only continue running the East Coast Mainline for a few more months saying they'd "got their numbers wrong".

    Labour and the RMT want the government to take over running the service as it has done previously.

    But the government says it would have been a waste of money to do that, and says it "maintains a full capability to act as an operator of last resort".

  14. Lincoln bars sign up to drug-in-drink testing schemepublished at 10:02 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2018

    Some bars and clubs in Lincoln will now be testing drinks for drugs, it's been revealed.

    It's part of a six-month pilot-scheme to help keep people stay safe when they're on a night out in the city.

    Anyone in 10 venues across the city can ask for their drink to be tested for free.

    The bars taking part are Strait and Narrow, Rogue Saint, The Scene, The Curiosity Shop, Trebles, Cardinal's Hat, Home, Fever and Boutique, Slug and Lettuce and Vice and Co.

    Thousands of archaeological remains have been unearthed during the excavation of trenches in northern Lincolnshire.

    Contractors have been digging to allow cable installations for Orsted's new Hornsea offshore windfarm.

    A team of 70 archaeologists has been working on the scheme and key finds so far include:

    • Two human burials, one medieval and one Roman, near Killingholme
    • Pottery, animal bone, coins, fragmented brooches and quernstones
    • Shells, with oysters seeming to have been a particular favourite in Tetney during Roman times
    • Bronze Age pottery at a site in Holton-le-Clay
    • Late prehistoric Romano-British settlement activity in Tetney
    • An "unexpected" Anglo-Saxon settlement in Laceby
    • Two medieval salt production sites in North Coates

  16. Homeless shelter stays open thanks to police volunteerspublished at 09:00 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2018

    Boston's emergency night shelter was able to open last night despite fears there wouldn't be enough volunteers to run it.

    The centre opens in the town when temperatures drop below freezing.

    It is run by groups of volunteers, but none were available last night - prompting fears it wouldn't be able to open.

    After hearing this, Marc Jones, the county's Police and Crime Commissioner, and a team from Lincolnshire Police put themselves forward to volunteer:

  18. Lincolnshire van thieves turn high-techpublished at 08:00

    There's been a spate of thefts in Lincolnshire targeting Ford Transit vans.

    A total of 14 have been stolen since December.

    Thieves are using high-tech key hacking software to break into the vans, according to police.

    Lincolnshire Police are urging owners to be vigilant and Ford says it's aware of a potential security risk and is offering a free software update.
