    Lincolnshire Police say every major route across the county is blocked due to drifting snow and freezing temperatures and the force is urging people not to travel.

    Almost 160 schools across Lincolnshire are closed this morning as bad weather continues to grip the county.

    Headteachers have been getting in touch with the BBC to let us know which ones are closed and we're constantly updating the list on our Facebook page here., external

    A woman from Lincolnshire who had an "obsession" with serial killers and had murder on her "bucket list" has been jailed for killing a teenager.

    Jemma Lilley, previously of Stamford, garrotted, stabbed and buried Aaron Pajich at her home in Perth, Australia.

    The 26-year-old was convicted alongside housemate Trudi Lenon at the Supreme Court of Western Australia in November.

    The pair have been sentenced to life with a minimum jail term of 28 years.

    During a four-week trial, prosecutor James McTaggart told the court Lilley was so "full of herself and euphoric" after the killing she could not help boasting to a work colleague

  11. Hospital cancellations continue tomorrowpublished at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    More operations and appointments at Grimsby and Scunthorpe hospitals are going to be cancelled tomorrow due to the weather, it's been announced.

    All planned outpatient appointments were cancelled today due to the snow.

    Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust says appointments at Goole Hospital will go ahead as planned tomorrow.

    However, a small number of operations and appointments at Scunthorpe and Grimsby will not take place, the trust says.

    All affected patients will be contacted in advance and people should turn up for their appointments unless they hear otherwise, it adds.

  12. County faces 'serious situation' - Deputy Chief Constablepublished at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Lincolnshire Police officers have been dealing with a "serious situation" due to the snowy conditions, with the roads in a "very difficult position", the county's Deputy Chief Constable has said.

    As a result, Craig Naylor says people should avoid making 999 calls to the ambulance, police or fire services unless it's an emergency.

    Lincolnshire's Strategic Coordinating Group is currently liaising with the Army to ensure medical provision is provided to those who need it, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    Local residents in Lincoln are being particularly urged to avoid travelling, with people in other parts of the county being asked to check conditions and BBC Local Radio before travelling.

    Two high street retailers have gone into administration today, putting jobs at risk at stores in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

    Administrators have been appointed for the toy retailer Toys R Us and electronics chain Maplin after both failed to find a buyer.

    Both retailers have stores in Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

    The companies blame poor sales for the collapse, but say stores will remain open until further notice.

  16. Most main routes in Lincolnshire now openpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    The force control room at Lincolnshire Police HQ says most main routes are now open again following this morning's snow, but heavy showers could soon change that again.

    There are some issues still around though.

    The A157 from Louth to Wragby is closed and Lindum Hill in Lincoln is shut for the time being as well.

    There are still cars stuck on the A46 (pictured) too, though that road is slowly clearing.

    It's been a long day for the county's gritting team, with the council telling us that as Lincoln has been particularly badly hit, they're concentrating on efforts there.

  18. Don't travel until 'absolutely necessary' - Lincs Policepublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Lincolnshire Police is asking for people in the county not to travel unless it's "absolutely necessary" to do so due to the poor weather conditions.

    Stuck lorry on A46

    It comes after the force earlier declared a "critical incident", meaning it's working with other agencies in the county to alleviate traffic issues and get to people needing help and support.

    Over 70 traffic-related incidents have now been reported to Lincolnshire Police so far today, the force says.

    Officers are still on the scene on the A46 in Lincoln where a lorry has broken down. It's hoped the vehicle will be moved shortly.

    People stuck in traffic are being advised to stay in their vehicles, keep warm and speak with officers on the scene if they have any specific concerns
