Let me show you my commute this morning after I decided I'd best leave the car at home!

This is the scene a lot of us are waking up to - even main roads are seeing a lot of the white stuff settling so smaller back roads don't stand a chance.

This is West Parade in the city.

Much of the city is now a wintry wonderland - almost every roof is covered when you look out from Liquorice Park.

The bird protection charity says that after a mild January, the cold weather is hitting the county just as birds prepare for the nesting season.

It says that long periods of cold weather mean birds struggle to find food and water.

It's asking you to help by providing fatty food under bird shelters and to fill and defrost birdbaths to help garden birds.

Though the ice and snow doesn't appear to have deterred a Kingfisher from looking for food and water near the River Slea in Lincolnshire (pictured).

    Quote Message

The intense plunge in temperature will create a dramatic end to winter and the beginning of spring. The Beast from the East could spell doom for garden birds at a crucial time."
