  2. Watch: Armed police arrest man on Lincoln Uni campuspublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 23 May 2018

    A man arrested by armed police on the University of Lincoln campus a short time ago did not have a weapon, the Lincolnshire force has confirmed.

    Students in the university's library were asked to stay where they were during the incident, in which a 25-year-old man was arrested.

    The man was arrested on behalf of the Nottinghamshire force and no-one else was involved in the incident, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    The university later tweeted: "We're grateful for the patience and understanding of staff and students."

    A power cut is currently affecting about 200 properties in the Immingham area.

    Northern Powergrid, external says it's aware of the problem and hopes to have the electricity supply restored by 15:00.

  4. Lincoln Uni incident: Students were told to 'run'published at 12:59 British Summer Time 23 May 2018

    A student caught up in an incident on the campus of the University of Lincoln this lunchtime says students were told "to run" by campus security.

    The university has since confirmed that it asked students to stay in the library until the incident was over.

    A 25-year-old man was arrested at the request of the Nottinghamshire force, Lincolnshire Police have confirmed.

    Officers say they're leaving the area shortly.

    Witnesses have suggested the officers attending the incident were armed.

    Lincolnshire Police have not yet confirmed if that was the case.

    A primary school teacher who assaulted a pupil in Lincolnshire has been banned from teaching indefinitely.

    The incident took place at Monkshouse Primary School, Spalding in June 2016.

    Kenneth Maidens was convicted of assault by beating at Boston Magistrates Court on 3 March 2017.

    A disciplinary panel, external found the 42-year-old was guilty of breaching professional standard and should be banned from teaching.

    Mr Maidens can apply for the ban to be lifted in two years.

    A unique collection of Lincolnshire postcards has sold for £22,000 at auction.

    The 16,000-strong set was amassed by late Lincolnshire historian David Robinson and the earliest postcard dates back to the 1890s.

    They were sold by Louth-based auctioneers John Taylors who thought they'd go for £20,000 but were quite surprised about just how interested people were.

    The B1207 is currently closed at Appleby in North Lincolnshire due to a burst water main.

    In addition, the road through nearby Risby was already shut for long-term roadworks and this was the diversion route.

    Roads in the area are now having to accommodate heavy commuter traffic and drivers are being warned to expect delays.

    A 13-year-old Lincolnshire girl will go on a trip of a lifetime next year after being selected to compete in the Special Olympics.

    Lauren Douce, from near Gainsborough, has learning difficulties and is a gold medal-winning gymnast.

    Her family had worried they wouldn't be able to afford to take her, but after fundraising she can now head to Abu Dhabi.

    A group of people in Grimsby are calling for people to stop vandalising Weelsby Woods.

    The comments come after a series of arson attacks on trees in the area.

    Member of the Friends of Weelsby Woods community group have teamed up with Humberside Police to ask members of the public to start respecting the woodland.

    A large part of Gainsborough is without water or has very low water pressure this morning.

    Anglian Water says it's because of a pump failure and they're hoping to get it fixed by 14:00.

    New 4x4 vehicles are being used by police to patrol part of the Lincolnshire coast.

    The vehicles are normally used to catch hare coursers in more rural areas, but the force has decided to take them to Skegness now the hare coursing season is over.

    Officers say the vehicles, which have a top speed of 50mph, give them more of a presence, particularly over the summer months.

    The government's agreed to hold talks over the possibility of "freeport status" being granted on the Humber.

    The move would give tax exemptions to goods coming through ports on the river.

    The Conservative MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers, told the Commons it would be a boost for the region once Britain leaves the European Union.

    The Chancellor Philip Hammond said he would send his deputy Liz Truss to meet MPs from the area.

    A £600,000 scheme has been approved to protect homes from flooding in Middle Rasen.

    Properties in the village have been flooded three times in the past decade.

    The work to protect more than 50 homes will begin towards the end of July.

    More now on the dog that was pulled out of the Brayford after overestimating his swimming skills.

    As we told you earlier a passing lecturer from the University of Lincoln managed to scoop him out in the end but not before his poor old owner, Adrian Smith, stripped off and jumped in after him!
