    A Lincolnshire MP is calling for longer prison sentences for those caught carrying knives.

    John Hayes, the Conservative member for South Holland and the Deepings, says a four-year maximum isn't enough.

    Speaking in the Commons, he said the average time served is six months.

    I just think it's too low. In Scotland those convicted spend on average a year behind bars and there is a lower rate of knife crime than in England and Wales. Immediate action needs to be taken to address the issue of inadequate sentences.

    Humberside Police want to speak to this man in connection with a serious assault in Cleethorpes bar.

    A 46-year-old man was assaulted as he waited at the bar in Bootlegger on Alexandra Road, external sometime before 04:00 on Sunday.

    The victim received potentially life changing facial injuries.

    The suspect, who is thought to have spoken to the victim earlier in the evening, is said to have an Irish accent with a Yorkshire twang.

    This was the moment a passing University of Lincoln professor saved a dog which was struggling in the Brayford Pool.

    The owner actually jumped in but was having trouble trying to keep Bracken the dog's head above water.

    Police have ruled out that a splash from a passing car contributed to the death of a 95-year-old woman in Sleaford.

    Lincolnshire police were investigating claims that a motorist speeding through a puddle caused Hilda Moore to fall over in late April.

    They identified at least two motorists who had driven through the standing water on Mareham Lane but today have said this in no way contributed to Mrs Moore's death and have concluded she died of natural causes.

    Police are appealing for information after an assault in Ingoldmells last month which left a man with serious neck injuries.

    Police say the victim was hit by a pint glass at Castaways Bar on Spa Lane at about 20:20 on Wednesday 28 April, but the details have just been made public.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses and have published the image above of a woman they want to speak to.

    Police are asking for information after a man was found in the street with head and facial injuries in Cleethorpes at the weekend.

    He was spotted at about 03:00 on Sunday morning lying unconscious on the floor near the traffic lights by the Mobility Scooter Centre close to the Alexandra Road roundabout.

    He was taken to hospital for treatment.

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released under investigation.

    Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

    Ambitious regeneration plans for Gainsborough are progressing, according to West Lindsey District Council.

    The proposals include a new public square, the refurbishment of Whittons Gardens and a new cinema for the town which will be built on the site of the Old Guildhall.

    Detectives are welcoming the conviction of two men for human trafficking and running brothels across the East Midlands.

    Meyrick Bramhill-Purchase from Witham St Hughs near Lincoln has been jailed for four-and-a-half years. Mo Quan Zhou from Derby has been sent to prison for five-and-a-half years.

    The investigation, which began in 2015, discovered the two men were controlling Chinese and Malaysian women and operating brothels in Lincoln, Derby and Chesterfield.

  17. Man charged with impersonating police officerpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 22 May 2018

    A man from London has been charged with impersonating a police officer in Boston.

    Mohamed Abdulahi, 22, of Cumberland Market in Camden, is alleged to have posed as an officer in April and instructed two people to hand over large quantities of cash and high value items.

    He's been remanded to appear in Lincoln Crown Court at a date to be confirmed.

  18. Man dies in Scampton crashpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 22 May 2018

    A Lincoln man in his 30s has died after a crash on the A15 Brigg Road in Scampton.

    It happened at about 16:45 yesterday afternoon.

    The man was driving a blue BMW and was involved in a collision with a silver Mercedes articulated lorry.

    He was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary but died later.

    The road remained closed until 04:00 this morning, police say.
