  3. Sails at historic windmill 'may come off' in high windspublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

There are fears the sails on the only eight-sailed-windmill in the world which still grinds flour, Heckington Mill in Lincolnshire, could come off in the current high winds.

This was the scene there a short time ago:

The chairman of the trust which runs the mill, between Sleaford and Boston, says that "during normal operation the mill started turning in reverse".

The way the unique windmill is built means the wind must drop before the brake can be applied to stop the sails from turning.

Police say there's "a concern that the sails may come off" and have closed nearby roads as a precaution.

    Quote Message

During normal milling operations, the mill started turning in reverse. The design of the mill means we are waiting for the wind to drop before it can be stopped. No-one has been harmed, and there has been no damage to the mill."

Charles Pinchbeck, Chairman, Heckington Windmill Trust

An announcement on who the new shirt sponsor will be is expected in the near future, the club says.

    Quote Message

  11. Football fan flies the flag for England...in stylepublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

As the World Cup kicks off in Russia this evening, the big question is: who is the biggest England fan in Lincolnshire?

    John Jupp

Our vote goes to John Jupp, from Blyton, near Gainsborough, who has blanketed his entire home in a St George's Cross.

The impressive flag is 1250 sq ft in size and covers up his house's windows and doors.

Mr Jupp says it cost him £380 to buy the gargantuan St George's Cross, and it took 15 people to put it up.

He says he bought it because he's "a mad football fan" who loves international football.

Although neighbours have been supportive, he says his family aren't too pleased and that it's caused "a bit of trouble" from his wife.

  12. Ambulance Service 'moving in right direction'published at 09:27 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

Progress has been made by Thames Ambulance Service's work in Lincolnshire since an improvement plan was put in place, according to councillors.

    Ambulance

Thames won the contract to provide non-emergency patient transport for the region in July 2017, but was heavily criticised by staff and patients for its performance.

In December, county councillors gave a vote of no confidence in the service and a plan was put in place to improve its performance.

Recent performance figures show the service improved in areas such as journey arrival times and fast-track patient collections.

Thames Ambulance Service will now go before the panel on a quarterly basis rather than every month following the report.

Carl Macey, chair of Lincolnshire's Health Scrutiny Panel, says: "At the moment, we have assurances they are moving in the right direction.

    Quote Message

There are still some areas which need to be carefully scrutinised and kept an eye on. It is a lot more positive since they came to us a matter of months ago."

  14. Sharp rise in 'revenge porn' casespublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

Cases of so-called "revenge porn" have almost doubled in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire over the last three years.

    Revenge Porn

Revenge porn is the sharing of private, sexual photos or videos of another person without their consent and it became a criminal offence in April 2015.

An investigation by BBC Yorkshire also found that more than one in three people who reported cases of so-called revenge porn withdrew their complaint.

Charities which support the victims say this is largely because victims aren't given anonymity as it's not classified as a sexual offence.

Proposals for a major shake-up of NHS services in Lincolnshire won't be published until next year, it's emerged.

    boston pilgrim hospital

Councillors at the county's health scrutiny committee have been told that discussions on the plan were still taking place with NHS England.

The Sustainability and Transformation plan, external (STP) includes a review of the county's hospital services for the coming years.

Concerns have been raised by councillors over the lack of progress since a draft was first published in December 2016.

Proposals in the STP include having fewer acute care hospitals and specialist services such as stroke care and maternity.

The health scrutiny committee was told by the man leading the work, John Turner, that detailed discussions are currently taking place with NHS England.

Mr Turner said he shared the committee's frustration about the time it was taking, but said they had to go through "right processes" within the NHS.
