Extra police on Lincoln's streets to tackle drug abusepublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 20 July 2018
Officers are to be brought to Lincoln from other parts of the county, to help deal with drug taking and anti-social behaviour.
It follows criticism from city centre businesses that the problem is getting out of hand, and it's not being treated as a priority.
Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones says his officers are having their shifts extended to 12 hour shifts, they have had their rest days cancelled and have been pulled away from other areas of the county to deal with the issue.
He added he understands that it can be frightening for residents: "My 80-year-old mother comes to Lincoln shopping.
"She does not want to feel frightened walking down the High Street. I do not want to take my nine-year-old down the High Street and her be exposed to this so I feel it, I understand it, I see it and we need to tackle it."
Quote MessageThe reality is these aren't vermin these are people these are our residents and we need to tackle the issues that underlie it."
