Bill Skelly to stay in crime recording top-job despite damning reportpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 18 July 2018
Lincolnshire's Chief Constable will continue as the police's national spokesman on crime recording, despite a damning report on his own force's performance.
Mr Skelly is currently the country's top officer on crime recording and statistics, but his force was rated inadequate yesterday by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary after it emerged his officers failed to record one in five reported crimes.
But the National Police Chiefs' Council says Mr Skelly has been instrumental in helping other forces to deliver improvements in crime recording, placing victims at the heart of everything officers do.
A spokesman added: "He continues to do an exemplary job and there are no plans for him to step down as the lead for this portfolio."
