    Humberside Police have appealed for calm in an area of Grimsby after a disturbance in the town on Monday.

    A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage following the disturbance on Convamore Road.

    There's an increased police presence in the area as a response to residents' concerns, Humberside Police said.

    A driver has died after the van they were in hit a parked lorry on the A180 at junction 5 near Croxton, North Lincolnshire, in the early hours of this morning.

    Emergency services remain at the scene to carry out investigation work.

    The lorry driver was not injured.

    The road will remain closed westbound until at least 10.30 today.

    Police are re-issuing an appeal for witnesses to a stabbing in Boston earlier this month.

    The victim suffered puncture wounds to his leg and abdomen during a brawl on Tunnard Street at about 23.00 on the Saturday 14 July.

    Officers arrested two men and a woman, who are in their 20s, they have been released under investigation.

    A serious accident involving a lorry and a van has shut the A180 near Barnetby Top in northern Lincolnshire this morning.

    The road was closed in both directions after the incident at about 02:30, but the eastbound carriageway has since re-opened.

    Westbound is likely to remain closed through the morning rush hour.

    A diversion is in place.

    North Kesteven District Council has denied any involvement in a petition objecting to the planned £30m redevelopment of an animal rendering factory in Skellingthorpe.

    In a statement on social media, the council said it had been made aware of a petition objecting to the development, which claimed to be backed by the council.

    "This is not the case. The council is not part of the petition and has not given its support," the council says.

    "As a statutory consult to the application, the matter has yet to be discussed by the authority's Planning Committee and, until this has been held, has not and will not be commenting on the matter."

    The owners of the animal rendering plant on Jerusalem Farm, DS Developing, are hoping to demolish the current plant in order to build a new a new animal by-product rendering site.

    Lincolnshire County Council, the authority overseeing the plans, has received more than 50 responses so far, and has seen objections from Skellingthorpe Parish Council, Lincoln MP Karen Lee and county councillor Mike Thomson, who lives in the village.

    Twigg has been part of the England Women's hockey team which won a bronze medal in the London 2012 Olympics and gold at Rio 2016.

    She says it's the "right decision at the right time", choosing now to focus on her legal career.

    She is set to continue to play hockey at a club level and says while she misses playing in tournaments she doesn't miss the rigorous training.

    One of her proudest moments was winning gold at Rio, but she says competing in 2012 was very special as it was her first Olympics.

    The lower ground floor rooms at Beech Grove Hall, in Manby, were set on fire at about 07:00 this morning.

    The blaze caused damage to furnishings and to three rooms.

    A silver Audi A4 is being looked for by police investigating a major pallet fire in Grimsby last week.

    The fire broke out at about 01:30 on Friday 27 July after the Audi was driven onto the premises of a pallet company on Estate Road 4 in Grimsby.

    Police say a "missile" was thrown from the vehicle, which caused £40,000 worth of pallets to catch fire.

    Anyone with information about this car, or about the fire, is being asked to contact police.

    An extension to a quarry on the Lincolnshire-Nottinghamshire border has been approved by the county council, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The extension to Norton Bottoms Quarry between Stapleford and Norton Disney will cover the equivalent of more than 100 football pitches.

    The owner of Breedon Southern says the plans would secure its workers' jobs and extend the life of the quarry.

    It will allow the quarry to produce more than 7m tonnes of sand and gravel over the next 14 years, the firm adds.

    As Northern Rail reinstates most of the services it cancelled just eight weeks ago, a report claims that the disruption cost the north of England almost £38m in lost business.

    The report, by the Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP), says up to £1.3m was lost a day at the height of the disruption, with one million hours of lost time from commuting, work and leisure on Northern trains alone.

    The leader of Leeds City Council, Judith Blake, said: "For the good of the northern economy, the government needs to give us the tools for the job so we can prevent these catastrophic events from being allowed to happen again."

    Over the summer, thousands of passengers have applied for compensation from train operator Northern, which made the first pay-outs last week.
