    A would-be robber armed with an axe got more than he bargained for after being overpowered by takeaway staff he tried to rob earlier this year, Lincoln Crown Court has heard.

    Stuart Parsley (pictured above), 47, from Francis Street in Lincoln, attempted to rob Lucky Takeaway, on Burton Road in Lincoln, on 17 January this year.

    His cousin, Darren Parsley (pictured below), 47, from St Rumbold Street in Lincoln, helped Parsley.

    Stuart Parsley attempted to attack Bee Wu Wong, who was working on reception in the restaurant, but she parried the blow, Lincoln Crown Court has been told.

    Her husband and the rest of her family soon came to rescue Mrs Wong, who had received a head wound from the axe and bruises to her wrist after grappling with Parsley.

    The court heard that the melee which followed resulted in both cousins suffering injuries, with Darren Parsley taken to hospital with numerous fractures after the fight.

    Stuart Parsley was jailed for seven and a half years after admitting attempted robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

    An off licence in Grantham has had its licence revoked for employing an illegal worker and paying employees below the minimum wage.

    Today's Express (pictured), on Market Place, was found to be paying two members of staff £5 an hour and employing one member of staff illegally.

    That employee wasn't allowed to work in the country because of his immigration status, according to police.

    The shop was also found to be selling alcohol below the minimum price.

    There is a 21-day period during which the shop can appeal against the decision, then it will lose its licence.

    Sgt Kim Enderby, from Lincolnshire Police, says the decision to revoke the shop's licence is "a clear deterrent to all stores".

  3. Horse on loose rescued after crash on A1published at 14:41 British Summer Time 8 October 2018

    A horse which was roaming loose on the A1 near Colsterworth has been rescued by a racehorse trainer.

    The horsebox was involved in a crash on the Great North Road earlier this morning and the animal escaped from the damaged box.

    The owner called his horse trainer friend, Chris Bealby, who came and helped the horse back into a new box.

    Mr Bealby says the horse itself was remarkably unscathed, despite the ordeal.

    A man has been jailed for four years after threatening his ex with a gun he'd stolen from the Museum of Lincolnshire Life.

    Lincoln Crown Court heard that 48-year-old Lee Rousseau stole a replica hand gun from a World War One display at the museum in Lincoln.

    He then took the replica Luger pistol and threatened his ex-girlfriend with it, poking the fake pistol through the letter box.

    His ex-girlfriend was in the kitchen with her child when the incident happened.

    Rousseau claimed he'd jokingly shaken the hand of a mannequin at the museum and it had come off, but CCTV confirmed he pulled the arm with the gun off and stole it.

    Rousseau, 48, of Turner Avenue, Lincoln, admitted charges of theft, criminal damage and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence as a result of the incident on 14 March this year.

  5. MP: Hull Trains 'not fit for purpose' after Grantham firepublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 8 October 2018

    A Labour MP has described Hull Trains as "not fit for purpose" after a fire broke out on one of its trains this weekend.

    Passengers were evacuated from the train at Grantham Railway Station on Friday evening.

    It caused major disruption to the rail network over the weekend, and will mean there will be no direct trains between Hull and London this week.

    Hull Trains said in a statement it was operating an emergency timetable after "a series of unrelated mechanical problems with our trains".

    Staff at a Lincolnshire school are appealing for help to convert an old classroom into a mental health hub for the community.

    Sir Robert Pattinson Academy in North Hykeham has been given money to pay for trained counsellors to help people in the area.

    The school has appealed for help to renovate the classroom it wants to use for counselling sessions.

    Staff hope people will volunteer their time and skills to help the project.

    The service will offer support for people with anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health problems.

    A horse is currently causing delays on the A1 after escaping from a trailer which had been involved in a crash.

    The northbound lane of the A1 is affected in the Colsterworth area.

    Police are advising drivers to "exercise extra caution".

    A man has been released after being arrested on suspicion of rape in Boston at the weekend.

    A 16-year-old girl called 999 in the early hours of Saturday morning to report she'd been sexually assaulted.

    Police drones were deployed to help find her.

    She was found with a man in his 30s in the Brown's Road area of the town.

    The man was arrested but has now been released without charge, police said.

    The MP for Louth and Horncastle, Victoria Atkins, has urged health managers to ensure Louth Hospital "serves the needs of the community".

    The Conservative MP hosted a public meeting on Friday to discuss proposals to cut 40 beds at the hospital.

    The plan was made public by the Lincolnshire Community Health trust in September.

    It had previously said the beds would only be closed temporarily.

    Campaigners against cuts at the hospital say that they're being kept in the dark.

    A six-year-old girl with scoliosis has been given a "new lease of life" thanks to a ground-breaking surgical technique, her family says.

    Aleisha Darban, from Bassingham, near Lincoln had severe life-threatening scoliosis.

    She would have faced a number of difficulties growing up if she hadn't had the surgery.

    She took part in a medical trial at Sheffield Children's Hospital, which involved having plastic ties inserted into her spine.

    Repair work on a road in Sutton-on-Sea could mean delays for motorists.

    Lincolnshire County Council say parts of Alford Road and Sutton Road are worn out.

    Engineers will be fixing potholes and then resurfacing it.

    Diversions have been set up and the work should be completed by Friday 19 October.
