    broken parking machines

It was introduced last week and includes a new number plate recognition system, meaning drivers won't be issued with a ticket when they park.

The MPs are due to meet Sajid Javid later to highlight concerns that jobs could be lost at Humberside Police if the rise in employer contributions comes out of existing police budgets.

Hull North MP Diana Johnson says: "One of the major drivers of higher crime in Humberside is the fall in police numbers to levels not seen since the 1970s."

Police and Crime Commissioners for both the Humberside and Lincolnshire forces have also expressed concerns about the impact of the change.

The Home Office say it's working closely with forces to understand the impact pension changes will have.

  5. High court powers to tackle Lincoln travellers?published at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Councillors have voted to apply for a High Court injunction to allow them to move unauthorised traveller camps on and to ban them from setting up in certain areas of Lincoln.

    birchwood travellers

Since 2015, the authority has spent £44,160.47 on clearing up sites such as Skellingthorpe playing fields, South Common and Yarborough Leisure Centre.

Meanwhile, officials said travellers at Hartsholme Country Park were the "most difficult to manage" due to anti-social behaviour and abuse to officers.

Under the plans, the injunction would prevent traveller sites being set up on areas of land within the city boundary.

If one is set up, then the police would immediately serve an injunction order advising them that they are trespassing.

Anyone who refuses to leave could face prison, an unlimited fine and seizure of assets.

Wendy Beresford was given the £100 charge at the retail park on Tritton Road in Lincoln, even though she bought something from a store on the park.

But the rules at the park have recently changed and mean people cannot leave their cars and go off-site to other stores.

UK Parking Control, which operates the site, has been asked to comment but hasn't responded at this stage.

About 20 graves dating to the fifth and sixth centuries, including one containing a woman cradling a baby, have been found in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

The cemetery was discovered after a metal detectorist uncovered artefacts at the site in Scremby, near Skegness.

One of the burials contained a skeleton of a woman cradling a baby in her left arm.

Hugh Willmott, from Sheffield University, led the dig and said: "These women wore necklaces made from hundreds of amber, glass and rock crystal beads.

"They used items such as tweezers, carried fabric bags held open by elephant ivory rings, and wore exquisitely decorated brooches to fasten their clothing."

The burials are thought to be in keeping with funerary rites adopted during the early centuries of the Germanic migrations to eastern England.

The dig is featured on BBC Digging For Britain on BBC Four at 21:00 on Wednesday 28 November.

It's about 2ft tall, has a strange tin foil sculpture on top - and nobody quite knows who's put it there.

Scartho, in Grimsby, once had a magnificently lit-up Christmas tree, but it had to be chopped down.

The area's official - and much bigger - tree is due to make its appearance on 10 December, but until then it seems this is as good as it gets...

Any idea how this tree came to be there? Why not get in touch?
