    A woman's died following a crash near Horncastle last night.

    An orange Vauxhall Corsa collided with a tree on the B1183 at Scrivelsby just before 18:00 on Tuesday.

    The 20-year-old woman who was driving the car was taken to Lincoln County Hospital with serious injuries and later died.

    Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

    Commissioners are expected to defend their decision to use Thames Ambulance Service for non-emergency transport in Lincolnshire later, despite the company's failure to reach targets.

    In December, county councillors passed a vote of "no confidence" in Thames Ambulance and suggested Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) should sever the contract.

    They will meet this morning to discuss the matter, external, but the CCG says it would be riskier to terminate the contract during the winter than to introduce a new company.

    A list of the most bizarre items found by North East Lincolnshire's street cleaners last year has been revealed - and what a list it is...

    While cleaning the streets, emptying litter bins and sweeping roads, North East Lincolnshire Council's teams found items including 200 dead chickens, a rotting iguana, blow-up dolls and a 7ft-long cuddly toy snake which was fished from the River Freshney (pictured).

    One lane of the A1 southbound is currently closed due to an overturned car at Great Ponton.

    There are long delays with traffic queuing for seven miles.

    Routes through Grantham, including Gonerby Road, Barrowby Road and Springfield Road, are struggling.

    Drivers are being warned to avoid the area if possible.

    The future of Lincolnshire's RAF Scampton, which it was announced last year is to be put up for sale, is to be considered as part of a 15-year plan for the site.

    West Lindsey District Council has bid for £150,000 of funding to look at ways the former RAF air station can be used after its planned closure in 2022.

    The council has approached the Greater Lincolnshire One Public Estate Board for the money which would be used to cover what are being described as "early investigations".

    The site is home to about 600 members of staff, including service personnel, contractors and civil servants.

    RAF Scampton has been home to the Red Arrows for several decades and its place in RAF legend was ensured by its role in the Dambusters story.

    A petition to stop Scampton's closure has so far gained over 10,000 signatures.

    There are worries about the future of a Lincolnshire market town once its last bank branch closes down.

    Barclays has just announced it will shut its branch in Market Deeping in May.

    The town has already lost a number of other banks in the last 10 years.

    A woman who attacked her neighbour with a hammer in Mablethorpe after a row over parking has been jailed for a year.

    Nadine Warwood, of Fitzwilliam Street, was upset when Benjamin Colvin asked a visitor to her home to move their vehicle from his parking space.

    After it was moved, Warwood deliberately blocked his entrance and he demanded she move.

    Lincoln Crown Court heard that Mr Colvin got a hammer and hit his own wheelie bin to pretend he was damaging her car.

    Warwood armed herself with a hammer and went across the road with her son.

    Her son threw a brick which hit Mr Colvin, then held him down while his mother attacked him with the claw hammer.

    The 42-year-old had previous convictions for affray and assault.

    She admitted assault and was sentenced to a year in prison.

    One of the last surviving Dambusters has died.

    Ninety-five-year-old Fred Sutherland has passed away.

    The Canadian was one of the final two surviving airmen who flew on the dams raid from RAF Scampton in May 1943.

    It's after the Toll Bar Academy announced it will not be offering any post-16 education.

    Some students are travelling more than an hour each way to its campus at New Waltham near Grimsby or to other schools in the area.

    The county council say they're reviewing transport to ensure students have good access to other schools.

    A mum from Lincolnshire who was fined for taking her children on holiday during term time says the penalty system doesn't work.

    A £60 fine is issued to parents if a child has missed school for more than four days in the space of six weeks.

    It's becoming an increasing trend amongst families in the county, last year 2,237 of these were given to parents, three times more than were handed out the previous year.

    The sighting of a 'UFO' in Lincoln this morning has sparked some worries.

    Inspector Ed Delderfield from Lincolnshire Police says they were carrying out an operation in the city this morning.

    He says they are striking: "The particular aircraft we use has really really bright navigation lights that allow it to be seen at night."
