    Richard Harries, from Middle Rasen, will be 70 when he takes on the 3,000-mile challenge next year.

    The semi-retired consultant radiologist is doing it to raise money, external for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

    New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has spoken about the death of British backpacker Grace Millane.

    The body of Miss Millane, 22, a former University of Lincoln student from Essex, was found on the outskirts of Auckland in early December.

    Plans to build a children's nursery at a farm park in Lincolnshire have been approved.

    An existing farmhouse at Rand Farm Park is being used to create the 90-space facility.

    The plans include an outdoor play space at the site and classrooms for babies, toddlers and pre-school aged children.

    The third Monday in January is known as Blue Monday and has been dubbed "the most difficult day of the year".

    The Samaritans want to encourage people to have a chat over a brew to combat isolation and loneliness.

    Volunteers will be at Lincoln Central Station until 13:00.

    The Grantham and Stamford MP Nick Boles is facing more calls from his local Conservative association to step down.

    Mr Boles is one of the people behind plans to take control of the Brexit process away from government and prevent the UK leaving the EU without a deal.

    Helen Gorrall, a councillor and member of the association, says that's not what Mr Boles' voters want:

    Nick has been fairly disingenuous and hasn't listened to us and, actually, as a constituency I think we want an MP who is not only going to listen and engage with their residents but also take that on board."

    However, Mr Boles said he would not change his view on Brexit to please a small number of Conservative members in Grantham and Stamford.

    "One hundred people in my local party have written in saying they're outraged by what I'm saying and want to de-select me," he told told Nick Robinson's Political Thinking podcast.

    "They're entirely entitled to their view, they're entitled to be members of the Conservative party and they're entitled to de-select me.

    "But I am not going to change what I believe is in the interest of the 80,000 people I represent in Parliament because of 100 people in my constituency party."

    A group of volunteers is baking birthday cakes for children in Lincolnshire who wouldn't otherwise get one.

    Free Cakes for Kids Lincoln, external sends them to women's refuges, hospitals, charities and to families who rely on food banks.

    Cassandra Jameson, from North Hykeham, who formed the group says the first ever cake she baked was for a boy at a domestic abuse refuge and she cried when she heard his response:

    A spokeswoman said: "The children and parents have been overwhelmed by the cake we have received and it's certainly raised a smile at a very tricky time in their lives."

  10. Late night street light switch-on in Lincolnshire?published at 08:00 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2019

    Councillors are due to vote later on whether to allow local communities in Lincolnshire to switch on their street lights once again.

    Half of Lincolnshire's 68,000 street lights started being switched off late at night in 2016 in a bid to save the county council £1.7m a year.

    The scheme, called "part-night" lighting, was introduced mainly in residential areas.

    If the plans are approved, parish councils will have to pay up to £300 for each light.
