    Traffic is starting to flow past the scene of a lorry crash on the M180 between South Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.

    The crash which happened earlier this morning involved several HGVs that shed their load near Hatfield and Sandtoft.

    Traffic is now being allowed past the crash which generated a tailback of more than 5km.

    Victor and Edna Barnett were devoted to each other, and passed away over Christmas with no known living relatives.

    Victor, or VJ as he was known, served with the Dambusters "617" squadron in Lincolnshire.

    He met Edna in the RAF where she worked in air traffic control.

    VJ was 101 when he died on the 21st December.

    Ten days later, 91-year-old Edna also died.

    They'd been married for 68 years.

    Two new bridges have been built as part of the construction of Lincoln's Eastern Bypass.

    The 41m-span bridge goes over the Market Rasen rail line and the 140m-span temporary bridge is over the River Witham.

    Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways and transport, says: "These new massive pieces of infrastructure mean the site team can now easily travel and move heavy plant, machinery and materials over the River Witham and Market Rasen to Lincoln rail line."

    This was the scene a short time ago after "several lorries" shed their loads following a crash on the M180.

    The incident involved a number of HGVs on the M180 westbound between junction two and junction one near Hatfield and Sandtoft on the South Yorkshire/North Lincolnshire border.

    The road is currently closed, with South Yorkshire Police saying the clean-up is likely to take a while.

    The force is asking motorists to avoid the area using the diversion in place by following the solid diamond on road signs.

    A crash involving a number of lorries on the M180 has closed the motorway near Hatfield and Sandtoft.

    The crash between junction two and junction one has closed the road with a diversion in place, according to Highways England.

    Staff at Lincolnshire's International Bomber Command Centre say measures have been taken to ensure it's not targeted in the same way as a memorial in London which has been vandalised.

    A clean-up operation's under way after white paint was thrown at the Bomber Command memorial in Green Park, London, the fourth time in six years the statue has been attacked.

    The memorial commemorates the more than 55,500 members of Bomber Command who died in World War Two - many of whom flew from bases in Lincolnshire and the east of England.

    Staff at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC), near Lincoln, say the vandalism shouldn't prevent the story of those who died in the war being told.

    Nicky van der Drift, from the IBCC, says they've had to take precautions at the Lincolnshire site to prevent it becoming a similar target.

    "We've had 14 break-ins - anything from theft to vandalism. So we've had to put up high-level CCTV and we've had to fence in the entire site with security fencing which didn't come cheap."

    A man, carrying a flat screen TV, is belileved to have damaged a taxi window before racially abusing the driver on Saturday outside Lincoln train station.

    It happened at 17:30.

    A 38-year-old man has been arrested and subsequently released under investigation.

    Lincolnshire Police are appealing for witnesses.

    The head of Humberside Police is going to work in Cleveland for three months, after a chief constable resigned less than a year into the job.

    Lee Freeman will "support Cleveland Police through this uncertain period" after his predecessor resigned with immediate effect.

    He is the interim replacement for Mike Veale, who left on Friday while facing an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following "serious" allegations about his behaviour.

  13. Man arrested over 'bottling' in Sleafordpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2019

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested after an assault in Sleaford on Saturday.

    The victim was walking home with friends on Lincoln Road in the town at 22:10 when he was hit in the face with a bottle.

    Inspector Ian Richardson, of Lincolnshire Police, is asking anyone with information to get in touch.

    He added: “I wish to reassure the community that this appears to be an isolated incident with no wider impact on community safety."

    Plans have been approved to allow local communities in Lincolnshire to switch back on their streetlights.

    Lincolnshire County Council says communities will have to pay £300 per light under the new scheme.

    Half of Lincolnshire's 68,000 street lights were switched off in 2016, to save the county council £1.7m a year.

    A project which has brought the arts to parks, sides of lorries and bus shelters in South Lincolnshire has been given £500,000 of lottery funding.

    The project says the new money will allow it to continue to take art into rural locations and everyday places and create a new contemporary opera looking at food production in Spalding.

    Lincoln's Eastern Bypass is still on track to be finished by May 2020, despite one of the subcontractors calling in the administrators.

    The county council says the scheme's main contractor Galliford Try will take over some of the work themselves.

    A Louth man who carried out a sex attack on a four-year-old while on bail for an assault on another young girl has been jailed for seven years at Lincoln Crown Court.

    Richard Hunt, 31, denied the offences but a jury took less than two hours to convict him following a trial.

    Hunt, of Virginia Drive, Louth, denied two charges of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.

    The charges related to separate incidents on 5 February and 30 August last year.

    He was placed on the sex offenders' register for life and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

    The RSPCA has named a call they got from Lincolnshire as one of the funniest they received last year.

    Last March, members of the public spotted a red scorpion on the streets of Grantham.

    They cordoned off the area for two hours while an RSPCA officer raced to the scene.

    When they got there they discovered it was in fact a rubber toy...

    The memorial to Bomber Command has been vandalised for the fourth time in six years.

    White gloss paint has been splashed across the monument in London's Green Park.

    Lincolnshire played a key effort in the bombing effort during the Second World War and the memorial commemorates the 55,573 members of Bomber Command who died in its service during that time
