  1. Pedestrian dies after Oxford Street cyclist crashpublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    A 73-year-old woman has died after being struck by a cyclist in London's Oxford Street.

    The pedestrian suffered a head injury in the crash, which happened at about 16:30 on Tuesday.

    She was taken to a central London hospital but died in the early hours of Wednesday.

    A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the cyclist stopped at the scene of the crash and no arrests have been made.

    Roads in the area were closed for several hours following the crash.

    A public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire, which killed at least 80 people in June, officially opens later.

    It will examine the cause and spread of the fire, high-rise regulations, and the actions of the local authority.

    The head of the investigation, judge Sir Martin Moore-Bick, will give a 45-minute statement which will be watched by residents and victims.

    No evidence will be heard on the first day of the hearing, and an interim report is expected by Easter.

    There are severe delays on the Victoria Line between Victoria and Brixton due to a signal failure at Brixton.

    On the District line, there are severe delays westbound between Upminster to Earl's Court and eastbound from Tower Hill into Upminster, with delays to C2C train services, following an earlier trespass incident in the Hornchurch area.

    On Southern trains expect some cancellations on services via Caterham following an incident last night.

    And there are minor delays on London Overground between Stratford/Richmond, and Clapham Junction due to a couple of faulty trains.

    Two chapels designed by the architect of the Natural History Museum and a south-east London pub have been named among England's most endangered buildings.

    They feature on the Victorian Society's annual list of buildings deemed "at risk of being lost forever".

    The New Tiger's Head, Lee Green, London (unlisted, 1890s) Comparatively little is known about this 19th Century former pub on the borders of Greenwich and Lewisham.

    It is on sale for £2.5m and, according to the Victorian Society, the local authority has requested the current owners to make emergency repairs.
