  3. Reward over attempted murder of homeless man shot in parkpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2017

    A £10,000 reward is being offered to catch a gunman after a homeless man was shot three times.

    The 34-year-old victim suffered injuries to his left arm, left hip and right calf after being approached from behind in Daubeney Fields, Hackney.

    The man, who is well-known in the local community, had been at a children's barbecue on 15 July which continued into the early hours of the next day.

    Police say he was dancing in the east London park when the attacker struck just after midnight.

    Despite his serious injuries, the victim made his way out of the park into a nearby housing estate where he was able to get first aid and contact the emergency services.

    He was taken to hospital, where he stayed for two weeks to recover.

    A 31-year-old man arrested on 28 July on suspicion of attempted murder has been released while investigations continue.

    A luxury tour bus once owned by the legendary rockers Status Quo has found a new lease of life as a homeless shelter in London.

    Businessman Mike Moulds, from Long Riston near Beverley, has sold the bus, with its twelve bunk beds, luxury leather seating and nightclub booth, to the London-based charity the Outside Project.

    It will provide emergency accommodation to LGBT+ people as a mobile homeless shelter.

  5. 'Allies' bench unveiled after restoration workspublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2017

    A bench in Bond Street which features bronze figures of Winston Churchill and Franklin D Roosevelt engaged in conversation has been unveiled following restoration work.

    Created by the late American sculptor Lawrence Holofcener, the "Allies" bench was given a permanent home on the street in 1995 to mark 50 years of peace since the end of World War Two.

    Liam Gallagher had his "call to arms" answered last night when a person brought a peeler along to his gig in Bethnal Green and peeled a potato.

    The former Oasis star tweeted he wanted "somebody to peel some spuds live on stage" after his brother Noel performed on Later with Jools Holland, external with a band member who was "playing" a pair of scissors.

    Hundreds responded to the younger Gallagher's tweet and videos recorded, external at the concert showed a man did indeed peel a potato during one song.

    Military personnel can travel free on Chiltern Railways this Sunday.

    The operator says it's to allow current and past personnel to pay their respects at the many events held on the day.

    Services will also be held at Birmingham Moor Street and Leamington Spa on Monday and at London Marylebone on Saturday to remember railway staff lost in conflict.

    Six seahorses have been spotted living in the River Thames in the last two months, charity ZSL (Zoological Society of London), external have revealed.

    The most recent sighting of a short-snouted seahorse was recorded by an ecological survey team at Greenwich, but spiny seahorses have also been seen in the river in London.

    Anna Cucknell, Estuaries & Wetlands conservation manager for ZSL, said both species "tend to prefer shallow coastal waters and estuaries".

    "Both species typically have small home ranges and don’t tend to travel far gives reason to believe that the seahorses we’ve found recently are permanent residents rather than occasional visitors," she said.

    Normally only one or two are spotted every year and ZSL have said they do not know what has caused the surge in sightings.

    The 26-year-old victim was followed along Harrow Road then pushed into an alleyway and assaulted in the early hours of the morning on 17 June.

    Det Insp Jimi Tele said the suspect "was riding a distinctive bicycle with white wheels which had wide white rims and white tyres ".

    "One line of enquiry we are investigating is if he followed other women, and possibly approached at least one other woman, in the local area prior to this attack being carried out," he said.

    A £10,000 reward is being offered for information which leads to the prosecution of the person responsible.

    England and Germany players will wear black armbands bearing poppies for Friday's friendly at Wembley.

    The tribute is in remembrance of members of the armed forces, said the Football Association (FA) and German Football Association (DFB).

    FA chief executive Martin Glenn called it "a show of solidarity and unity".

    It comes after rules were changed last month, allowing the home nations to wear a poppy if opposing teams and the competition organiser agree to it.

  18. Woman taken to hospital after restaurant firepublished at 10:23 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2017

    A woman has been taken to hospital following a fire in South Croydon.

    Firefighters were called to the blaze at a takeaway restaurant on Selsdon Road, South Croydon, at 08:59 GMT.

    Four fire engines and 21 firefighters attended and the fire has now been put out.

    The woman was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital.

    Part of the restaurant's kitchen and the extraction system was damaged by fire.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation.
