Cressida Dick tells the Home Affairs Committee that if the Met has to make £400m of cuts by 2020-21, it will have to cut police officers from around 30,000 to 27,500.

Ms Dick says that preventing violent crime is one of her priorities and that it has been a "Herculean effort" to stem its increase in London.

Ms Dick tells MPs she's "really concerned" cuts will hamper police work to stop people becoming violent extremists.

The calculation that rising costs will mean that the Met needs to find savings of more than £400m by 2020-21 comes from the Mayor of London's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) budget submission from December last year, external.
