    An empty passenger train which derailed at West Ealing will not be moved until tonight, Network Rail has said.

    The GWR train caused cancelled services to Heathrow Airport and severe delays in and out of Paddington station after it came off the tracks this morning.

    All lines have since reopened, Network Rail said.

    Engineers will work on the site overnight to move the train, which is in sidings next to the running railway, because it is only safe to work when other trains are not coming past.

    #GivingTuesday has been trending on social media - but what is it, where did it come from and how are people getting involved?

    This day of selfless acts follows the spending spree that is the long - and expensive - shopping weekend between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. People are encouraged to offer time, money or support to help a good cause.

    "Giving Tuesday started in America on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving," says Angharad Thomas, from the Charities Aid Foundation, external, which has organised the UK's Giving Tuesday efforts since 2014.

    Solomon Smith, 33, is volunteering at the Brixton Soup Kitchen he set up in 2013 to help serve people in this part of south London.

    "Every day we get people saying 'why are you doing this and not getting paid?'" he says.

    Some NHS 111 patients are to be booked appointments with their local pharmacist, officials have said.

    Patients in London with minor illnesses who call the NHS helpline can be sent to a nearby pharmacy instead of seeing a doctor. NHS England said specially trained 111 operators can refer patients with minor health concerns for a consultation.

    A spokeswoman said pharmacists are clinically trained to advise and offer treatments for a range of conditions including sore throats, hearing problems, allergic reactions, and pain and swellings.

    The new pilot scheme will cover 8.8 million people across the capital.

    Four men have been arrested after more than £500,000 worth of copper cable was stolen from Rugeley's former power station overnight.

    Staffordshire Police say they were called to the site at midnight and the men were arrested after a "large search of the area".

    The stolen cable was found discarded.The men, who are aged 18, 20, 30 and 34 are all from the London area and are being held on suspicion of theft.

    Hundreds of flights serving London airports have been cancelled or delayed amid thick fog.

    By noon some 62 flights to or from London Heathrow today were cancelled and a further 380 were delayed by more than 15 minutes.

    That means more than one in three flights were disrupted. British Airways alone saw 45 cancellations and 237 delays at the west London hub, which is the UK's busiest airport.

    London City saw 62 cancellations and 46 delays, while Gatwick experienced no cancellations but 173 delays.

    A Heathrow spokeswoman said: "This morning's heavy fog has led to reduced visibility across all London airports which may result in some passengers experiencing disruption to their journeys today.

    "Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their airline before coming to Heathrow.

    "As always, our top priority is the safety of passengers and we apologise to those whose travel has been affected by today's weather."

    Former Chelsea and Watford manager Gianluca Vialli has revealed he was treated for cancer for almost a year but is now "very well".

    The 54-year-old has written about his illness in a new book, and told Corriere della Sera , externalthat he hid the illness because of "a sense of shame".

    "It's been a year and I'm back to having a beastly physique," the former Juventus and Chelsea striker said.

    "But I still have no certainty of how this match will end."

    She was a war-time Nazi codebreaker. She was also the society girl brought up in London in considerable privilege who fended off the amorous advances of Lloyd-George.

    In a long political career, she was mayor of Cambridge, a Conservative whip and served as a health minister in Margaret Thatcher's government.

    But Baroness Trumpington, who has died at the age of 96, found fame and a place in the nation's heart late in life - flicking a V-sign at a colleague during a House of Lords debate.

    It was arguably the best career move she ever made and she revelled in her newfound YouTube notoriety.

  12. Woman charged with manslaughter over pensioner deathpublished at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    A woman has been charged with manslaughter and fraud after an 89-year-old was found dead at her home in west London. Busisiwe Msipha, 37, of no fixed address, will next appear at the Old Bailey on 17 December accused of killing the pensioner.

    The alleged victim was found at a home in Corringway, Ealing, just after 08:30 on 17 November.

    A post-mortem examination was carried out the following day but a cause of death could not be established and further tests are being carried out, the Metropolitan Police said.

    Ms Msipha, who knew the woman that died, was charged that day and appeared at Ealing Magistrates' Court on 20 November.

  15. Firefighters tackle disused train carriage firepublished at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to disused train carriages alight next to Southall train station.

    One derelict train carriage was destroyed by the fire and a further two were damaged.

    There were no reports of any injuries, LFB said.

    The Brigade was called at 02:25 and the fire was under control by 05:53.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    London Bridge, Cannon Street, Southwark and Millennium bridges are all set to become aglow as part of the Illuminated River art project, external.

    All 15 bridges along the river will form a single artwork across the city to signify a symbolic link across the areas.

    Planning permission has been granted, so work is to begin with the hope of the lights being turned on next summer.

    A ninth arrest has been made after a woman died in a housefire in Greenwich.

    Memunatu Warne, 46, from Sierra Leone, died in a fire at a home in Centurion Square, Berber Parade, Greenwich in the early hours of 6 September.

    A 45-year-old woman was arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

    She remains in custody at a south London police station, police said.

    The eight other people who have already been arrested as part of this investigation include a 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, who have been bailed pending further inquiries, as well as six others who were then charged with conspiracy to murder.

    The six people facing charges are:

    • Billy Smith, 26, of no fixed address
    • Kyle Kendall, 27, from Lewisham
    • Kurtis Freeman, 21, of Steyning Grove, Bromley
    • Matthew John, 19, of Ankerdine Crescent, Greenwich
    • Martin McArdle, 28, of Dittersham Road, Bromley
    • Elliott Robinson, 21, of Charminster Road, Mottingham

    Five people racked up 8,655 calls to the Metropolitan Police in 2017 - costing £70,000 to answer.

    What did the top five repeat callers have in common? Mental health problems.

    A watchdog for police forces in England and Wales released the figure to show how police have become the "default" service to deal with mental health.

    Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Service claims the broader mental health system is "broken".
