A new gallery is to be built at Cheshire's Jodrell Bank , externalafter the Discovery Centre was awarded more than £16m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and central government.
The project is called "First Light at Jodrell Bank" and will celebrate its place in the history of astronomy.
The University of Manchester, which owns the site, says the scheme will cost a total of £20.5m, take three years to finish and create 19 jobs.
A plea to save a "vital" direct train service from Norwich to Liverpool has been made to government.
Norfolk County Council's environment, development and transport committee has written an open letter to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, emphasising how important its sees the direct Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street service.
It comes after a central government consultation, external into the future of the East Midlands franchise questioned whether the service would be better off split in either Nottingham or Sheffield.
Terry Jermy, Labour councillor, said more journey connections could only result in problems for travellers.
"It only takes one train to be late and the rest of the connections are affected," he said.
The franchise is currently run by Stagecoach-owned East Midlands Trains but this expires in August next year. The Department for Transport has yet to comment.
Cuadrilla's application comes after the government proposed a relaxation of fracking planning laws.

A body has been found after a shed fire in Manchester.
The discovery was made during a search of the outbuilding on Mossdale Road in Northern Moor at about 13:00.
The next-of-kin have been informed, said police.

The £20.5m First Light Project will see the visitor centre being extended with a new building that tells the story of the site's pioneering role in the history of astronomy.
The funding award from the government and the Heritage Lottery Fund was confirmed by the prime minister on a visit to the Cheshire observatory.

Flags will fly at half-mast in Liverpool tomorrow as the city remembers people affected by the Manchester Arena terrorist attack.
Twenty-two people were killed and 800 people suffered physical and psychological injuries after a home-made device was detonated outside an Ariana Grande concert on 22 May 2017.
The council said its employees have been encouraged to observe the national one minute’s silence at 14:30 and flags on civic buildings will fly at half-mast.
Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral will host a live screening of a special service, external from Manchester Cathedral between 14:00 and 15:00.

A memorial service will be held at Manchester Cathedral tomorrow to mark the first anniversary of the Manchester terror attack.

Two men have been jailed for life for the murder of a 19-year-old Merseyside man in a drugs dispute in Flintshire.
Mr Cassidy, from Huyton, was stabbed nine times on the stairs of a block of flats due to a drugs turf war in Connah's Quay last May.
David Woods, 20, from Liverpool, and Leslie Baines, 48, from Deeside, were found guilty of murder at Mold Crown Court.
Both were given life sentences, with Woods ordered to serve a minimum of 27 years and Baines a minimum of 26 years.

Fans seeking tickets for Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid in Ukraine are being asked to pay "ridiculous" prices online.
Some are on sale for more than 20 times face value, with one ticket on a resale website priced at more than £14,000.
Liverpool sold out their allocation of 16,626 tickets for Saturday's match.
"The situation is ridiculous. Third parties have seen the chance to make a profit," said Reds fan Neil Atkinson, host of the Anfield Wrap podcast.
Capacity for the match at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev will be 63,000.
