    A minute's silence was held at the Great Manchester Run in tribute to those who died in last year's terror attack in the city.

    Twenty-two people were killed by a suicide bomber outside an Ariana Grande concert on 22 May.

    Some of the survivors took part in the race, including Martin Hibbert, who was paralysed from the waist down, and 15-year-old Freya Lewis, who started and ran in the junior race.

    Sir Mo Farah won the men's 10K run while Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba came first in the women's event.

    Three men have been arrested after a grenade was thrown at a house and shots were fired at another.

    The explosive device, described by police as a distraction grenade, was thrown at the address on Beech Lawn Close in Salford, Greater Manchester, at about 00:30 BST on Friday.

    The grenade was safely removed from the area and a controlled explosion was carried out by bomb disposal officers.

    Shots were then fired at another house on Salford Quays at about 01:20.

    Britain's Olympic and world 10,000m champion Mo Farah said he felt "tired" after his first victory in the 10km Great Manchester Run yesterday.

    Farah, who finished third at the London Marathon last month, raced past Ugandan Moses Kipsiro with 100 metres left to win in 28 minutes 27 seconds.

    Abel Kirui of Kenya finished third, 25 seconds behind Farah.

    Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba won her third straight women's race, well ahead of Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei.

    In the men's wheelchair race, Britain's David Weir beat Johnboy Smith and Simon Lawson to win in 21 minutes 28 seconds.

    In the women's wheelchair race, Britain's Liz McTernan was victorious in 34 minutes 20 seconds ahead of Heather Gilham and Lucy Keyworth.

    Police said there could have been "an absolute tragedy" after an eight-year-old boy found a shotgun on waste ground.

    Police were called at about 18:00 BST on Sunday to reports that a child had discovered a gun near Church View and Chapel Terrace, in Bootle, Liverpool.

    Merseyside Police is carrying out house-to-house inquiries near the scene and studying CCTV.

    Ch Insp Steve Rice said: "This is a truly shocking incident."

    Rail passengers are reporting delays and cancellations this morning after new timetables were introduced.

    Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) rescheduled every service on its Great Northern, Thameslink and Southern franchise as part of an overhaul billed as the biggest in the UK.

    The operator apologised after it cancelled dozens of trains, hours after its new timetable began on Sunday.

    It has confirmed disruption is continuing on Monday morning.
