    A woman who donated her kidney to a stranger said she was "disgusted" by her treatment in hospital, which has "left a bad taste" in her mouth.

    Jacqui Collins, from Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire, said she was made to feel like a "nuisance" by Manchester Royal Infirmary staff after surgery last May.

    The former regimental sergeant major, 54, said errors in her care included problems with post-surgery pain relief.

    Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has apologised.

    Lancashire batsman Jos Buttler says his England recall for this week's first Test against Pakistan at Lord's "feels like another debut".

    The 27-year-old, who played the last of his 18 Tests in December 2016 against India, has kept wicket before but has been picked as a specialist batsman.

    "It's a fantastic surprise and an incredible opportunity," he said.

    "Any time you turn up here at Lord's, it's special, and all of those emotions are arriving today."

    A women's team from FC United of Manchester and walking football side Fleetwood Flyers were among the winners in the FA People's Cup - and they journeyed to Wembley to pick up their trophies at the weekend.

    The cup is a small-sided tournament, which is completely free to enter and welcomes male, female and disability players across 18 categories – ranging from U-14s to veterans (over-35s).

    The severed head of a dog was discovered hanging on the door of a house in Lancashire, police have said.

    Officers were called to the Great Meadow area of Chorley after the occupier found the animal's remains on a door handle on Sunday.

    The dog is believed to be a Yorkshire terrier aged between five and seven.

    "This was extremely distressing for the occupant... at this time, we have no idea why this has happened," said a spokesman.

    The rest of the animal's body has not been found. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

    Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane is to leave the club at the end of the 2018 Super League season.

    Former Wigan forward Wane, 53, was initially Michael Maguire's assistant before he succeeded him as head coach at the start of the 2012 campaign.

    Wane has led Wigan to two Super League Grand Final wins, a Challenge Cup, League Leaders' Shield and World Club Challenge during his time at the helm.

    "I feel that now is the right time for me to seek a new challenge," he said.

    Cuadrilla has applied for an injunction forbidding trespassing at its Preston New Road site in Lancashire.

    Protests have been held regularly near the Preston New Road site

    The injunction relates to farmland at and surrounding the energy firm's shale gas exploration site at Preston New Road, near Little Plumpton, the energy firm said.

    The proposed injunction would replace and extend an existing injunction, and would also prohibit unlawful obstruction of the site entrance and adjacent main road.

    The High Court hearing will take place on 31 May.

    It follows national anti-fracking protests at the site.

    Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will fight Albania's Sefer Seferi when he makes his comeback in Manchester on 9 June.

    Fury, 29, has not fought since claiming the IBF, WBA and WBO titles from Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.

    Seferi, 39, has boxed at cruiserweight for most of his professional career but will face Fury at heavyweight.

    United lost the FA Cup final 1-0 to Chelsea on Saturday and finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

    That came after spending £148m on transfers last summer, including big-money signings Matic and Romelu Lukaku.

    Matic said players with "experience" are needed to "bring more qualities".

    "The only team who is better than us this year is Manchester City," said the Serbia international, 29.

    "Obviously they play amazing football. But we are second and we are in the Champions League next year, which is the most important thing."

    A lack of drivers who have undertaken "comprehensive route training" on "brand new infrastructure" is causing cancellations and delays on Northern's train services around Blackpool, a company spokesman has said.

    The train operator changed its timetables on Sunday, which has led to problems on its service across the North of England for a number of reasons.

    Replying to a customer query on Twitter, external, a spokesman said the issues around Blackpool were due to "driver shortages" because of the new infrastructure in the area.

    Work on electrifying the line between Blackpool and Preston began in November last year and services only resumed in April.

    "All of this means we are having to make last minute changes to some services, which is causing the delays and cancellations," he said.

    "Our planning teams are working hard to rectify these issues and we expect the situation to significantly improve as we complete the driver training in the coming weeks."

    After losing their One-Day Cup opener to holders Nottinghamshire on Thursday, the Red Rose responded well, enjoying their biggest runs victory in this competition in 28 years.

    Davies (147) and Keaton Jennings (73) set the platform for the hosts' 314-7.

    Tom Bailey, Stephen Parry, Joe Mennie, Matt Parkinson and Liam Livingstone all took two scalps as Durham made 122.

    Davies' knock was Lancashire's highest-ever individual score at Old Trafford in one-day cricket - and their best against a fellow first-class county, beating Neil Fairbrother's 145 against Hampshire at Old Trafford in 1990.

    The jury in the case of three people accused for murdering four children in an arson attack in greater Manchester, has been sent out to consider its deliberations.

    Demi Pearson, her brother Brandon and their sister Lacie all died in the fire on 11th of December 2017 in Jackson Street, Walkden.

    Their three-year-old sister Lia died in hospital two days later.

    Zak Bolland, 23, of Blackleach Drive, Walkden; Courtney Brierley, 20, of Worsley Avenue, Walkden; and David Worrall, 26, of no fixed address deny four counts of murder and three of attempted murder.

    Before sending the jury out, Mr Justice William Davis told them this was "a case bound to raise emotion".

    "You will have to do your task dispassionately,” he said, adding: “You are here to decide what they did [and] what was in their minds when they did it.”

    A father whose daughter died in the Manchester Arena bombing wants to stage an annual benefit concert to raise money for victims of terror.

    Saffie Roussos was the youngest of 22 people killed in the May 2017 suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert.

    Her father Andrew is calling for Bono, Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin to help him organise a "modern-day Live Aid".

    "I want to celebrate my daughter, she was full of life and she loved music," he said.

    Passengers in the north of England are reporting delays and cancellations as rail routes covered by Northern, which operates services across the north from Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle, saw train times and stopping patterns change from Sunday.

    The RMT called today "Meltdown Monday" and said it should "spell the end of the privatised chaos on Britain's railways".

    Arriva Rail North Ltd, which runs the Northern franchise, said its timetable changes would result in an extra 1,300 services added to the network.

    It said 90% of the services would be affected by the changes.
