    Ariana Grande has posted a picture of her new bee tattoo, a symbol of Manchester.

    This week the city marked the one year anniversary of the terror attack at the Manchester Arena where 22 people died, shortly after Ariana came off stage.

    To remember the victims, thousands of people have had a bee inked on their body. Ariana has followed suit and captioned her post: forever.

    For many Mancunians, the bee represents both hard work and togetherness.

    The way secondary school league tables in England are now devised is unfairly stigmatising schools in white working class areas, head teachers say.

    Heads in the North West have complained the measure for comparing schools, known as Progress 8, is skewed against schools serving deprived white communities.

    James Eldon, principal of the Manchester Enterprise Academy, where 90% of the GCSE year are eligible for free school meals, warns of the "disillusionment" for communities already feeling "socially isolated and disenfranchised".

    White working-class boys have one of the lowest rates of entry to university of any group.

    The Department for Education says the revised rankings have become "fairer".

    An Islamic State supporter urged terror attacks on fans inside the UK's biggest football stadiums, a court has heard.

    Husnain Rashid, 32, allegedly posted a list of the grounds to potential "lone wolf" terrorists after a Turkish football stadium blast killed 38.

    He also produced a magazine with suggestions to strike the 2018 World Cup in Russia with vehicles, weapons or bombs, Woolwich Crown Court heard.

    The former mosque teacher, from Lancashire, denies terrorism charges.

  5. Danny Boyle to direct next Bond filmpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 25 May 2018

    Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle is to reunite with Daniel Craig for the 25th Bond film, which is due to be released from 25 October 2019.

    The Radcliffe-born director will also reunite with Trainspotting writer John Hodge, who is creating an original screenplay.

    Production is set to begin on 3 December at the UK's Pinewood Studios.

    EON Productions' Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli described Boyle as "exceptionally talented", adding they were "delighted" to have him on board.

    Operator Worldchoice Sports said it could not secure landing slots at Kiev's Boryspil Airport for three planes but said it had secured an extra last minute three-night trip.

    Liverpool supporters in Kiev have spoken of their frustration that some fellow fans have had their flights cancelled.

    Flights were scrapped when landing slots at the city's Boryspil Airport could not be found - leaving up to 1,000 supporters stranded.

    Tour operator Worldchoice Sports cancelled three flights on Thursday but has since secured one flight for a three-night stay.

    Zak Bolland, 23, and David Worrall, 26, were found guilty of murdering Demi, Brandon, Lacie and Lia Pearson in Walkden, Salford.

    Courtney Brierley, 20, was found not guilty of four counts of murder but convicted of manslaughter, following the blaze on 11 December 11 last year.

    CCTV footage showed Bolland and Worrall buying petrol moments before the attack, which caused an explosion at the house.

    Rail company Northern should lose its franchise if improvements are not made, the mayors of Greater Manchester and the Liverpool City Region have said.

    A phone call between Andy Burnham, Steve Rotheram and Transport Secretary Chris Grayling took place to discuss disruption and mass cancellations.

    The mayors said Northern needed to publish an action plan so it could be held to account by passengers.

    A spokesman for the government said the disruption has been "unacceptable".

    Northern has been approached for comment.

    A student hospital worker has been chosen to become mayoress of her city after helping to care for the mayor's late wife.

    Laura King was asked by Preston Mayor Trevor Hart to take on the role.

    The 34-year-old medical student became a friend of the family after helping the mayor's wife, Claire, who suffered a brain tumour and died in 2016.

    Ms King, who works in anaesthetics and helps patients' recovery, becomes one of the city's youngest ever mayoresses.
