    Stockport Council has said work is continuing to clear a new £290m dual carriageway which has flooded for the second time in a week.

    The A555 Manchester Airport Relief Road in Stockport was closed in both directions on Wednesday after heavy rain left the road submerged.

    A section of the road between the Oil Terminal roundabout and the A6 opened earlier but the stretch heading down Woodford Road to the A34 is still closed in both directions, said a spokesman.

    Extra pumps have been brought in as efforts to open the road continue.

    Stockport Council said roadside pumps would be replaced once flooding had subsided.

    A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Nadeem Qureshi in Sheffield, bringing the total number of arrests to six.

    The body of Mr Qureshi, 40, from Manchester, was discovered on Station Road in Deepcar on Wednesday evening. He died from multiple injuries.

    Five other men, aged 18, 23, 30, 34 and 48, all from Sheffield, have also previously been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    South Yorkshire Police has appealed for anyone with information to contact the force or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

    Manchester Airport suspended flights during a period of heavy rain, said a spokesman.

    The runways were closed between 11:42 and 11:51 but the airport said it had since returned to normal operations.

    The Met Office said 18.6mm of rain had fallen on the area since midnight.
