  17. Suffolk drug dealer 'took leading role' in killing of Great Yarmouth manpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    BBC Local Live

The defence barrister of a drug dealer who's been sentenced for his part in the killing of a Great Yarmouth man who bled to death from stab wounds, had made the case for a lesser sentence.

Steven Perian argued that at no time during the incident had his client, Tevin Birmingham, wielded the knife.

He also reminded Norwich Crown Court that 21-year-old Birmingham, from Spring Road, Ipswich, had asked his 18-year-old accomplice, Warren Ricardo Blake, to put the knife away.

Passing sentence Judge Stephen Holt told Birmingham that it was "quite clear you were fully aware and in joint possession of that knife... it's clear you were the leader of the two and older. You took the leading role. Blake looked up to you."

Blake, of south London, was found guilty of murder in June and sentenced to 17 years in prison.

  19. Malaviya Twenty: MCA say impounded ship is still detainedpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    Andrew Turner
    BBC Radio Norfolk

We've now heard from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, external (MCA) who tell us it understands that all crew on board the Malaviya Twenty, external supply ship, that has been impounded in Great Yarmouth since December, have "been paid their wages up until July 2016".

The MCA added: "All payments are now up to date, except for the master and another officer, whose wages are still owed for January and February.

"Some crew changes have taken place at Great Yarmouth and those crew members leaving were all fully paid and repatriated at the company's expense. Crew wages for August are due for payment by 15 September.

"The vessel, which supplies the southern North Sea gas field, will only be released from detention when an MCA surveyor is satisfied that all the grounds for detention have been dealt with."

  20. Malaviya Twenty: Crew grew vegetables on deck for foodpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 1 September 2016

    Andrew Turner
    BBC Radio Norfolk

I've been aboard the Indian-owned ship that has been impounded in Great Yarmouth since the end of 2015.

Its 12-strong crew had been going without wages, making it difficult for them and for their families back home. Across the deck I can see tubs and barrels cut in half, filled with soil and vegetables, and pots of flowers.

Port chaplain and welfare officer Peter Paine told me these were kept hidden when he paid welfare checks and the crew didn't say how bad conditions were. All that kept them going, he says, was the internet they had on board.

The crew has now been paid and repatriated back home and a new crew of people - some who have been with the company for 20 years is now on board. Peter tells me the larder is now well stocked with provisions.
