    Former Norwich City player Darren Eadie says he was hoping to see some new faces come transfer deadline day, but he's not surprised there were no new signings for Carrow Road.

    Speaking on BBC Radio Norfolk, Eadie says Alex Neil is looking for a "very specific type of centre forward... one who's probably going to get you 25-30 goals a season, playing upfront... and there's not too many of them out there."

    A man has been taken to hospital after his light aircraft crashed in marshes in Burgh St Peter, near Beccles.

    It happened yesterday evening about 19:15 and the casualty, who's in his 40s, managed to call 999 himself. A spokesman for the ambulance service he'd suffered an ankle and leg injury.

    A police helicopter was used to get him off the marshes to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston for further treatment. 

    The ambulance service said his injuries were not life threatening.

    More needs to be done to support people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless, says the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust., external

    Spokeswoman Debbie White says an increase in those out of work and people with addictions are contributing factors to the increase in the rising number of homeless people, many who also need access to local mental health services.

    Ms White says they "recognise the increased risk of vulnerability of people who're homeless in mental health crisis... responding to referrals for these in the same way we would for people who are not homeless but who are in crisis... there is no specialist service commissioned to deal with this."

    A charity in Norwich that helps the homeless says they've seen an increase in the number of rough sleepers in the city over the last few years. 

    The St Martins Housing Trust, external, which runs the 30-bed Bishopbridge House hostel, external, says this year they've seen about 200 people come through their doors, compared to 120 four years ago. 

    The charity also said the number of people they are seeing with mental health issues is also increasing.

    Derek Player, who runs the charity, says an increasing demand for their services means they're looking to build another three bedrooms this winter.

  5. No incomings for Norwich City on transfer deadline daypublished at 08:50

    Three Norwich City players left Carrow Road on loan, but there were no additions on transfer deadline day. 

    Defender Harry Toffolo joined League One Scunthorpe until January, while James Maddison will be at Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen until the new year. Midweek hat-trick hero Tony Andreu has signed for Scottish Championship team Dundee United for the rest of the season.

    Canaries boss Alex Neil said he wanted as many as two strikers before the end of August, but he will have to make do with just Nelson Oliveira who joined from Benfica on Tuesday.

    City resume their Championship campaign at home to Cardiff after the international break.

    The head of the RAF says the future of Norfolk's airbase is secure.

    Sir Stephen Hillier, who has been at RAF Marham, external today to unveil a new station memorial, said that with the new Lightning II fighter jets due to arrive in 2018, the base will be used for years to come.

    Today's ceremony is one of the celebrations marking the centenary of RAF Marham, set up originally on land donated by the Hare family for aircraft to counter Zeppelin attacks.  

    The station is now the home of the Tornado Force, which has been on constant operations for 25 years.

    The hospital says the move will see it saving money on agency staff but the wards would be re-opening in the autumn when 100 newly qualified nurses start work.

    Richard Parker, the hospital's chief operating officer, said it was "taking advantage of a seasonal low in patients needing medical care", adding the closure had been made possible "because of improvements in the emergency department in tackling delayed discharges".

    A Norfolk patients group has hit out at the closure of 68 beds at the county`s biggest hospital.

    The Norfolk and Norwich says it`s a temporary measure that will save spending on agency staff at a less busy time of year. It says the wards will re-open in around 2 months time when 100 newly qualified nurses start work.

    But Bill Adnams, of Norfolk Keep our NHS Public, external, questioned the hospital`s assurance that the move was temporary.

    "They're in finanacial special measures and if they're closing wards just for eight weeks they're not going to save a vast sum of money. 

    "The way to save more money is to close them permanently. This is the pattern nationally and it would seem likely that this is what's going to happen here."

    Norwich City could be about to add another striker to their ranks ahead of the transfer window closing at 23:00.

    BBC Radio Norfolk understands that Watford forward Jerome Sinclair is mulling over a potential loan move to the Canaries.

    Sinclair joined the Hornets from Liverpool in the summer for £4m.

    Elsewhere, reports suggest Steven Naismith (pictured) could be on his way out of Carrow Road. Sunderland boss David Moyes is said to be keen on linking up again with man he managed at Everton.

    A former Norwich City player has been speaking about his battle with depression, in a bid to help other men talk about mental health illness.

    A popular player with fans, Leon McKenzie says his depression was worse at the peak of his career and that it was a long time before he was able to confide in someone about his mental health struggles.

    He's now working with Norwich MIND, external to raise awareness, and says suicide is the biggest killer among men in the UK suffering from depression or mental health problems. 

    "With men there's a lot of pride involved and when there's a lot of pride involved egos get hurt," he said. "It isn't always easy to talk to someone but there are lots of organisations out there who want to help."

    McKenzie is now a professional boxer.

    Police have released a video clip of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a voyeurism offence, external which happened on the day of the Norwich 10km run. 

    The appeal comes after a report was received of a man taking photographs up the victim's skirt near to Gentleman's Walk on 7 August.
