    Heavy rain has now reached Norfolk:

    • Station Road in Wymondham closed due to flooding
    • We're hearing reports of flooding on the East Harling Road in Thetford. 
    • Rail services between Norwich and Cambridge are disrupted, due to lightning damage
    • Some places could get as much as 50mm (2 ins) or more of rain today
    • The weather station at Santon Downham, near Thetford, has reported 35mm (1.3ins) of rain
    • The weather station at the UEA campus in Norwich has recorded 24mm (0.9ins) of rain
    • We've heard reports that 41mm (1.6ins) of rain has fallen in the Wymondham area, which is possible as it ties in with radar images

    There's been lightning mixed in with the rain, and motorists are advised to take care - particularly if travelling on the back roads.

    As for the rest of the day - the rain has set in, but it won't be as heavy. 

    Persistent rain is expected for most of the Norfolk with a further 10-15mm (0.4-0.6ins) in places.

    It will start to fade away and break up, becoming light and patchy, as we go through the evening and night - but a few spots may remain tomorrow morning.

    Greater Anglia have updated their information, external about the problems caused by lightning damage at Brandon:

    "Customers are advised to travel on Great Northern train services between Cambridge and Ely where you are advised to change for a rail replacement bus service between Ely and Thetford and a train shuttle service between Thetford and Norwich in both directions.

    "Customers at Norwich may travel on Abellio Greater Anglia services to Ipswich and change at Ipswich for Ely."

    Alfie Hewett "pulled it out the bag", says mum Sarah Hooper, after he and his doubles partner Gordon Reid claimed a silver medal in the Rio Paralympics on Thursday.

    Tonight Alfie, from Cantley near Norwich, is back in action in the singles final - and will "go out fighting" against his partner and best friend Gordon.

    Sarah says the family will be out there supporting both boys.

  9. Inquest into death of teenage girl on contraceptive pillpublished at 09:42 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    An inquest into the death of a teenage girl from Thetford, who died after being prescribed the contraceptive pill, will be heard at the Norfolk Coroners Court in Norwich today.

    Charlotte Lockwood, 15, was prescribed the pill to help control heavy menstrual bleeding. 

    Soon after starting the treatment, she began to lose her hair and put on weight. 

    By April 2014, she was suffering severe back pain. Charlotte died in August 2014. 

    We'll bring you updates from the inquest, which is due to get under way from 10:00.

    Campaigners against coastal erosion at Hemsby are calling for more sea defences.

    They'll meet with Therese Coffey, MP for Suffolk Coastal and junior minister at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, external, who will be in neighbouring Scratby to officially mark the completion of the coast protection scheme at the beach. 

    In December 2013, a number of homes in Hemsby fell into the sea during the tidal surge. Local resident Lorna Bevan-Thompson doesn't think the fact their beach is privately-owned should affect their case for government help.

    Alfie Hewett says he's proud of his performance in the wheelchair tennis doubles in Rio despite missing out on a gold medal. 

    The 18-year-old from Norwich and his partner Gordon Reid were beaten 6-2 4-6 6-1 by France's Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer in the Rio Paralympics final.

    Hewett is guaranteed at least another silver medal. He will play Reid in the final of the singles tonight.

    A dry start for parts of the county, but becoming wet.  

    The Met Office warns of heavy rain, possibly up to 2in in places (5cm), with localised flooding later. There's a chance of lightning and hail.

    Feeling mild, with a top temperature of 18C (64F). It'll be windy in coastal areas.
