  14. Bake-off batter challenge didn't impress the judgespublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    Caroline Kingdon
    BBC Local Live

Let's have a quick look at why our Norwich mum, Kate Barmby, has gone out of the BBC's Great British Bake Off competition.

Last night, the nine bakers were given three challenges in the tent: having to create 24 identical savoury Yorkshire puddings for the Signature bake, 12 uniform lace pancakes in the Technical and a Showstopper of 36 sweet fried Spanish churros with dipping sauce(s).

Kate kicked off the batter-battle, creating her "Christmas dinner compromise" - Yorkshire puddings filled with turkey and cranberry sauce. Although judges Berry and Hollywood were pleased with the "lovely flavours", the bake was "irregular and poor."

Her heart-shaped lacy pancakes (pictured) also failed to impress, putting her in seventh place in the challenge.

And out of the frying pan and into the fire... her rabbit-shaped churros, flavoured with spices and complemented with a chocolate custard - didn't have the desired effect.

Paul said the bunnies were a "bit sad... flat, like they've been run over", before stating he was unable to eat them.

So it was all over for Kate - but Paul says she "was not the weakest baker" of the group, but over the batter-making weekend she was and "that's how the Bake Off works."

Keep baking Kate - we wish you well - and if you're passing by the Forum, feel free to pop in with another delicious sponge cake.

So it's "churr-io" to Kate Barmy, after her Showstopper rabbit-shaped churros failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry and she became the latest contestant to leave the BBC One's Great British Bake Off.

Kate dropped into the BBC Radio Norfolk studio, where presenter Graham Barnard asked who she thought will be crowned this year's champion baker?

The BBC One Show was filmed in springtime and the Norfolk mother-of-two has "kept mum" since then.

"The others are really brilliant... I've made new friends and kept in touch with the other bakers - I took my family for lunch with Tom this weekend", she says.

    Quote Message

All I can say is that I know the outcome, but I don't know what happens in between, so I'm going to enjoy watching it as a fan and see how they get on - even though I know who's won."

  16. Bake-Off Kate's children 'tasted the bakes'published at 13:30 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    Caroline Kingdon
    BBC Local Live

Kate Barmby says she still feels "pretty emotional" after becoming the fourth contestant to leave The Great British Bake Off.

The part-time respiratory nurse, who lives near Norwich, was one of 30,000 people who applied to be on the show and says she's pleased to have been part of the last series to be broadcast on BBC TV.

"It's hard work, and a lot of work goes on beforehand into the recipe developments... my two children, Lucy and Rebecca, have had great fun tasting the bakes and pretending to be Mel and Sue."

One of her highlights was when she went into the Bake Off tent to have her photo taken. She describes it as "a totally magical quiet moment... and that's when it really hit home what I was doing."

Kate says she doesn't want to forget her time on the show, and will continue baking, but she hasn't been near batter or her deep fat fryer since last night's episode was filmed in the springtime.
