Immigration, support for farmers and taking back control of our fishing waters were the stand-out measures for the East announced in today's Queen's speech.
The government says the new Immigration Bill will allow it to control the number of people coming here from the EU after Brexit. The Agriculture Bill promises to put in place "an effective system to support UK farmers" who will lose their subsidies after we leave the EU.
But the Fisheries Bill stands out with its strong promise to "enable the UK to control access to its waters and set UK fishing quotas once it has left the EU". This was a key demand of fishermen along the coast during the election and whilst there are no details about future quotas and access rights, the government is clearly serious about improving things for our fishing industry.
In a region where the poor standard of some schools has been an issue, it is worth noting that the government remains committed to making failing schools become academies but plans for grammar schools have been dropped.
Bear in mind that a lot of what is being promised will depend on the current Brexit negotiations and on this minority government staying in power. Two very big uncertainties in this new parliament.
