Mr Donnellan told the Birmingham Crown Court jury all the prosecution had heard from the defendant was his self-pity and how traumatic it was for him to redress a body.

He added Mr Tenniswood even decided to shift the blame onto the victim, saying it was some sort of masochistic event.

However, Samuel Stein for the defence said: "Why did he redress her? Why did he keep the duvet away from her face? Why did he put her shoes and bag away? Why didn't he get rid of anything? Why didn't he run away?

"Which one of these actions suggests he is seeking to get away with this awful crime?"

He went on to describe Mr Tenniswood as an "oddball".

Just months after setting out £65m in savings, the authority says more than half of that may not be achievable.

So it's coming up with new plans to save that same amount of cash.

Children's services and adult social care are taking the majority of the cuts, from £650,000 from support that helps people leave hospital, to £3.5m in children's services staffing costs.

The authority's ruling Conservative cabinet will discuss the plans today, but Robin Brown, Tory councillor responsible for finance, says it is planning properly.

  17. Olly Stone leaves for Warwickshire: 'The best chance of playing at the highest level'published at 08:57 British Summer Time 1 August 2016

    Mal Loye
    Former Northants and England batsman

For whatever reason, Olly Stone feels he has to leave Northants to progress his career. We've seen it with David Willey moving to Yorkshire for this season and, of course, in the past Graeme Swann moving to Notts.

It's lovely playing for a home side and making it as an international, but it's about you and your career and you want to give yourself the best chance of playing at the highest level - and Olly Stone feels that's at Warwickshire.

I can understand why Northants' head coach David Ripley is annoyed but if suddenly next season Stone wasn't performing then none of those eight counties who were interested would want him, so he's got to take his chance while it's there.
