  1. Rye Hill sex offenders prison healthcare still 'inadequate'published at 14:45 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Fresh concerns have been raised over "inadequate" health care provision at Rye Hill Prison near Rugby. 

    The annual Independent Monitoring Board report , externalsays it's worrying that required improvements are taking too long.

    The prison, which holds about 620 sex offenders, failed a Care Quality Commission audit last year.

    A re-inspection in April found that, despite some improvements, it still failed to meet legal requirements regarding inmate care plans and suitably trained health care staff.

    The report does highlight that Rye Hill is now a "more settled" prison.

    With a second female prime minister, Northampton Borough Council's three female leaders have been discussing being a woman in politics.

    Conservative Mary Markham, the council's leader, said they can have a "sensible and civil conversation". Danielle Stone, leader of the Labour opposition, said there was an issue with getting more women in politics and into positions on the council.

    While, Sally Beardsworth, leader of the Lib Dem group said that the three women "talk about things other than politics" and have debates "without testosterone".

    David Smith, a registered blind man who was refused entry to Santa Pod raceway on Sunday because he had a guide dog, says he wants to work with the Bedfordshire venue.

    Mr Smith, an experienced union equality adviser, says he understands Santa Pod's health and safety rules which are aimed at protecting animals, but guide dogs are different.

    "Guide dogs don’t bolt when they hear strange noises or when they hear loud noises," he said.

    "The Bug Jam event is different to a Santa Pod standard event, where most people hang around the race track.

    "I do understand the comments about it being a noisy arena, so we have, for Darcie, ear muffs to help block the sounds so she doesn’t get startled."
