A "severely dehydrated and emaciated" foal has died after it was dumped in a road in Newark, a horse charity reported.
Help for Horses said the foal was found by Severn Trent contractors in Quibell's Lane, on Thursday.
Volunteers worked "around the clock" to nurse the horse they named Turnip but he died on Sunday.
Janice Dixon, from the charity, said Turnip may have been at the site for a few days before he was discovered and has appealed for help tracing the owners.
Ms Dixon believes the most recent death is connected to the same "despicable people" who dumped a horse near Chesterfield last month and a number of other animalsfound abandoned across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire in February and March.
