A Leicestershire woman with Lyme disease has been telling BBC Radio Leicester how the condition lay undiscovered for two decades.
Angela Bean, from Lutterworth, was finally diagnosed with the illness in 2016 following years of mystery symptoms.
The disease can mimic numerous other physical and psychological problems, making it notoriously difficult for doctors to correctly identify.
She told BBC Radio Leicester: "My symptoms were initially diagnosed as MS but this was eventually ruled out and I was told it was all anxiety.
"I was offered testing with the UK Lyme Aid charity in 2016 and it came back positive. When I got my diagnosis I was pleased I'd got an answer for what had been puzzling me and medics for a long time.
Now she's having to live with numerous eye, muscle and joint problems as a result of the delay in diagnosis.
"The hardest part I've found is the fear you have of what's going to happen next," she said.
