With temperatures expected to rise this weekend across the region, dog owners have been warned not to leave their pets in hot cars.
The RSPCA said in Nottinghamshire, 123 calls were made to the charity about dogs in hot cars last year compared to 100 in 2017 - a rise of 23%.
In Leicestershire, calls were up from 96 in 2017 to 112 last year - an increase of almost 17%.
However, there was a drop in calls of about 18% in Derbyshire - 175 in 2017 down to 143 last year.
The RSPCA said: "Despite repeated warnings every year, owners still risk their pets' lives by leaving them unattended in vehicles during warm weather."
It advised people to call 999 and request police if their dog is displaying signs of heatstroke - such as panting heavily, drooling excessively, being lethargic or vomiting.
The retailer confirms plans to close 200 stores, which will mainly affect local pharmacies.

Conservative Ken Clarke has said he is "minded" not to stand again in the next general election.
The Father of the House, who was elected as MP for Rushcliffe in 1970, said he wanted to "pack it up" before people start "dropping hints" telling him to do so.
Quote MessageYou've got to hold yourself out as being able to do five more years and do the job properly. I'm currently minded to step down and I've told my people in Nottingham that I'm not standing again."
Ken Clarke, MP for Rushcliffe
Mr Clarke's 49 years in Parliament have seen him serve under David Cameron, John Major and Margaret Thatcher - with Cabinet posts including Chancellor and the Home Secretary.

The final plans have been published for the refurbishment of Derby's Assembly Rooms, which was badly damaged in a roof car park fire in 2014.
Derby City Council wants to re-glaze the front of the music venue, and create space on the ground floor for restaurants and shops.
The authority hopes to demolish the derelict building next year and reopen it as a music and performance space in 2022.
As part of the £44m project, a larger multi-storey car park will be built in the new 3,000-capacity venue.
An increase in council tax will help pay for the project, the city council said.
If planning permission is approved, work on the site could start in September.

A new "learning centre" to tackle knife crime has opened at the National Justice Museum in Nottingham.
It'll teach thousands of schoolchildren about the consequences of carrying knives.
It features the story of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella, who died after being stabbed in London in 2008.
His sister and former EastEnders actress, Brooke Kinsella, said the last 11 years have been a "living nightmare" for the family.
She said they were "proud" of the exhibition on Ben, the first outside of London.
"For us it's about education, early intervention, just teaching young people about choices and consequences and making those right choices," she said.
Opening the centre was Victoria Atkins, the minister for crime, who said it was an "extraordinary exhibition".

A council has been made to look like “absolute idiots” for installing parking meters with card payment options at rural sites where there is not enough signal for them to work.
It has been said that at 20 of the Derbyshire Dales District Council-owned car parking sites, card transactions are rarely possible.
At a meeting last night the council admitted that 3G coverage was “by no means comprehensive” and signal was “notoriously poor” in rural areas.
It also says that it is pushing trials to improve connectivity for the parking machines – after a first successful trial in Bakewell.
Further burdens on the system it said, were cloud cover and excessive usage of the available signal by people using their mobiles in the vicinity of the meters.
It said that even with the poor signal, the council had taken £300,000 in the past 12 months via card payments at its car parks.
Councillor Joyce Pawley said: “We have people thinking we are absolute idiots for putting these in place."
