Whilst many across the country are spending the evening celebrating - or commiserating - with like-minded voters, this couple is bridging the divide over a glass of (British) wine.
Barry Lewis, Conservative leader of Derbyshire County Council, voted to leave the EU. His wife of 20 years Katharine voted to remain.
He admitted they had disagreed over it from time to time but were both "relieved" to be able to "move forward".
He told the BBC: "We're both quietly toasting the occasion.
"We agree that whatever our differing views we need to get on with living and embrace the future. 23:00 marks something of a symbolic transition that needs quietly and respectfully noting."

A taxi driver has been praised for helping police catch a drink-driver who made off after crashing into a lamp-post in Nottingham.
Rayhan Islam was driving along Tollhouse Hill in the early hours of 21 December when he saw the crash on the other side of the road.
Nottinghamshire Police said the driver, 21-year-old Brendon Cassidy, got out the car and ran away. He was chased by two officers but failed to stop.
Mr Islam turned his taxi around and offered special constable Amy Sutton a lift so she could catch up with the driver.
SC Sutton arrested Cassidy, of Ropewalk, Nottingham, after he was found to be more than twice the legal drink-drive limit.
He was later charged with driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after an accident.
Cassidy appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to the offences.
He also admitted to driving with excess alcohol the previous day.
He was given a 12-week sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay £200 compensation, a £122 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
He was also banned from driving for 30 months, to be reduced by 228 days if he completes a course.
Speaking of Mr Islam's actions, SC Sutton said: "It was a great example of how support from members of the public can be vital in helping us to tackle crime and catch offenders."

Airport staff have raised concerns over a lack of protective equipment as fears surrounding the coronavirus outbreak heighten.
The GMB union, which represents staff at East Midlands Airport, said employees at the airport - and Liverpool and Stansted airports - have reported insufficient equipment.
National officer Nadine Houghton said: "The coronavirus is spreading across the world and everyone needs to do what they can to stop it.
"Surely protecting airport staff is the most basic requirement to keep us all safe?"
Two cases were confirmed in the UK on Friday, and at least 213 people in China have died from the virus.

A drowning dog who was rescued after her lead was tied to a rock in in the River Trent "has medical issues" but is "doing well".
Bella was rescued by dog Jane Harper, who spotted the Belgian shepherd struggling near Long Lane in Farndon, Nottinghamshire, on 6 January.
The 10-year-old dog, whose name was recorded as Bella on her microchip in 2010, was taken to a vet and a few days later, moved to the RSPCA's Radcliffe Animal Centre in Nottingham.
Centre manager Ella Carpenter said: "Bella continues to do well in our care. She does have some medical issues which we are carefully monitoring.
"She is enjoying plenty of fuss and attention from staff who have really taken to her. Once we are happy with her progress we will place her in an appropriate foster home."
The centre has been inundated with good wishes and offers to rehome her.
Ms Carpenter added: "She is currently unavailable for rehoming but we would encourage people interested in adopting a dog to visit our Find A Pet, external page."

Stress levels among British people dropped after Boris Johnson's election victory, a Nottingham health firm has claimed.
Medichecks has spent the past two years monitoring cortisol levels in the saliva of more than 2,000 volunteers.
It said detected levels of the stress hormone peaked last spring during Brexit uncertainty in the build-up to Theresa May's resignation but dropped significantly following Mr Johnson's win in December.
Dr Sam Rodgers, who analysed the findings, said: "The data from these spring 2019 readings is significant, because it mirrors what the testers were feeling at the exact time the UK was facing considerable political uncertainty.
"From June 2019 onwards, high stress levels average at around 24% of testers but we see a massive decrease in those reporting high stress in December, with levels dropping to 15% - the lowest of the year.
"This is unusual because December is generally a stressful time of year - and that is backed up by our 2018 figures.
"The fact that the Christmas period of 2019 bucked the trend could again be attributed to Brits taking a sigh of relief after the election, or it could be down to them taking some well-needed rest over the festive season."

A woman who lost part of her leg when she was hit by a taxi in New York has had an apology from the driver.
Sian Green-Lord, from Leicester, was on holiday in Manhattan in 2013 when the crash occurred, causing her life-changing injuries.
Taxi driver Faysal Himon has never faced criminal charges and blames a cyclist he was arguing with before the crash.
Mrs Green-Lord, 29, said Mr Himon had never apologised to her or shown remorse for what happened.
During her appearance on the ITV show Lorraine yesterday, the presenter told Mrs Green-Lord the driver had sent them an apology.
The driver reportedly told the show: "I just want to say to her I'm sorry.
"I felt bad every moment when I remember that day."
He also asked for Mrs Green-Lord's forgiveness - something she said is hard because of how much time has passed.
She told the show: "It's almost like I've had to come to terms with the no apology that now I'm getting it, it almost doesn't mean anything."
Had she had the apology earlier, she said it would have helped with her recovery.

The boss of the Toyota factory in Burnaston has said he is not expecting to see an immediate impact from the UK leaving the European Union this evening.
The Derbyshire plant has been building cars like the Corolla, Auris and Avensis since 1992.
Jim Crosbie, the managing director of Toyota Manufacturing UK, said it will enter a transitional period while the government negotiates a trade deal with the EU.
"For us, we're looking for certainty," he said.
The company has three main requests - zero tariffs, common regulations and smooth customs movement.
Mr Crosbie said that if trade deal talks are unsuccessful and the UK had to use World Trade Organisation tariffs, it would be "very damaging" for Toyota in the UK.

The brother of a footballer who died after being attacked on a night out has thanked the clubs across the UK for their help in an appeal for shirts.
Tom Sinnott, along with family and friends, set about contacting clubs to send football jerseys with "Sinnott 25" on the back, following the 25-year-old's death.
The response has been huge, with big names like Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire all taking part.
Mr Sinnott said: "I can't thank everyone enough for what they've done. It's touched us all.
"The big clubs have helped us get the awareness but the little clubs, the kids sending pictures has touched our hearts."
The shirts will be hung at Jordan Sinnott's funeral and will later will be sent abroad or auctioned off to raise money for charity.
Jordan Sinnott's friend Danny Ward, a Cardiff City player, said it had been a "horrendous week".
"He was a wonderful guy," said Mr Ward.
He said he first met Mr Sinnott when he was at Huddersfield Town between 2011 and 2015.
The footballer is also collecting shirts from every professional team in England and Scotland.
Two men have been charged with Mr Sinnott's manslaughter.
